Was anyone asking her to?
I think putting an amateur like her in such an iconic role is really sad.
Yeah. They should get someone who's been in the business for at least 20 years.
Oh, wait. ...
Well, I don't think she's very good.
Well if you don't think she's any good, she's obviously an amateur. I mean, obviously.
Apparently, opinions equal fact around here.
Amateur? Cameron is hardly an amateur. She's not Streep or the late great Bette Davis, but she's a consummate professional and she's always a thrill to watch. I love her in BAD TEACHERm even though the movie itself is a mess. I also love IN HER SHOES.
In the future, please don't confuse your opinion with facts.

I don't think Hannigan being played by a White Woman opposite a Black Annie will be a big deal as long as there is diversity in the orphanage. It may be a little awkward if the orphanage is full of black girls.
There's a black girl in the ensemble of the current Annie revival. Finneran and Lynch are mean to her and it's not awkward.

But that black girl is not Annie. There's a huge difference. And yes, let's hope for DIVERSITY. That would be nice. Not just "White" and "Black"

I think there's only a huge difference if you want there to be. Hannigan mistreats all of them, the story just so happens to be Annie's. I don't feel like Hannigan targets Annie. Grace is actually the one who makes Annie of interest to Hannigan in the most malicious way. Maybe it's the way that I'm looking at the story that keeps it from being awkward. I feel like Hannigan would have done this to any of the orphans, in this version Grace just so happened to pick a Black orphan.
Diaz took her part in "Charlies Angels" and turned it into comedic delight....
Then gave a really creepy performance in "Vanilla Sky"...
Theres range there and talent...She's not Bette Davis but then who is?
And she turned in a performance in MY SISTERS KEEPER that should have gotten her an Oscar nomination. Updated On: 6/27/13 at 03:13 PM
Obviously Cameron Diaz as a winner for Lead Actress at the LA Film Critics Award, a multiple SAG and Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee is such an amateur! Who is she anyway? Is this her film debut?
As far as musicals go she's a complete novice.
Hello Lovebwy Darling!
Your Margo!!
Didn't the role of Roxie in CHICAGO come down to Diaz and Zellweger? Either way, I expect Diaz to be a riot in this, I'm gonna have to do a double feature of INTO THE WOODS and ANNIE on Christmas Day because the casting for both projects is perfect so far.
AnthVoice2010, I forgot how excellent she was in Vanilla Sky! Cameron Diaz is actually the last person I would have thought of for Miss Hannigan but the more and more I think about it the more I think she will do great things. Cameron Diaz is shameless (in a good way) on screen and I think it will work.

Okay it's a bit ridiculous to call Cameron an amateur, she's a very accomplished actress, but that doesn't make her right for the role.
Miss Hannigan is an iconic character portrayed both on stage and on screen by such legendary divas as Dorothy Loudon and Carol Burnett. As accomplished as Diaz is, she's nowhere near the level of other talented ladies that have played her. For starters, she doesn't sing.
Cameron could be cast in any film she wanted, the reason I feel like this was such a missed opportunity is that there are plenty of more interesting actresses who can actually sing and rarely have a chance to star in a major motion picture, who would've sung and acted the hell out of that role.

Count me in as one who is excited with this casting-I think Diaz is brilliant in 'Bad Teacher'.
When and where did Carol Channing play Miss Hannigan?
Jazz I think you mean Carol Burnett. Though I Channing WOULD be a better choice than Cameron Diaz!!
Oops, It seems I somehow had their names mixed up, of course I meant Burnett, thanks for pointing it out

I think she would be great. It would be hilarious if we finally see the film and she had this gorgeous powerful voice (we can dream, right?)
