Wicked will take the Best Musical Tony, but does Avenue Q have a shot at book or score? Your thoughts?

I'm going to continue to believe that Avenue Q will not only take score but also Best Musical. My parade will dampen soon enough. Leave me my pleasant delusion for now. =:@}
My head says "Wicked will win", but my heart is rooting (Sorry & no offence to any Aussies reading this thread!) for Avenue Q!!

Ditto- I really want AQ to win but i know wicked will

well, there's no mistaking the fact that the book to Avenue Q is infinately better than Wicked - but WHO knows what the voters will think.
As well as the music and lyrics...in my opinion.
wendy - you took the words right outta my mouth.
I'm gonna examine this practically first:
Best Musical (probably to Wicked)
Best Score of a Musical: Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez (probably to Schwartz just because it's sort of his "comeback composition")
Best Book of a Musical: Jeff Whitty (if Q wins anything for sure it'll be this)
Best Director of a Musical: Jason Moore (probably Mantello for Assassins)
Best Leading Actor in a Musical: John Tartaglia (probably lose to Hugh)
Best Leading Actress in a Musical: Stephanie D'Abruzzo (probably lose to Donna)
But do I desparately hope for major upsets so Q can win them all? You better believe it! Fantasies come true!!!!!!!!!!

Not a chance in hell..
I think it has the best chance to win book.

Honestly, I don't think it will win anything (as much as I liked it-but I liked Wicked just as much).
So, I guess as I liked them both-I really don't care which wins.
At least that's my opinion, I may be wrong.

I think that AVENUE Q will (sadly) lose Best Musical to WICKED.
I do think AVE Q will get a couple of awards, though. Hopefully for the writing.
Think back...
THE LION KING won best musical, but not the writing awards -- which thankfully went to RAGTIME. (The fact that TLK won best musical over RAGTIME is beyond me.)
THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE won best musical, but the writing awards went to URINETOWN (mercifully).
THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA won best musical, but the writing awards went to INTO THE WOODS (thank God!).
It could happen!

Scooter, I think you said it all.
I do think that this situation between AveQ and Wicked is similar to Millie and U-town. Prediction in a nutshell: Wicked will get the glitz awards and Q will get the content awards.

Sadly, this is worse than MILLIE/URINETOWN. MILLIE sucked! Sutton Foster was the only good thing about the show! Well, maybe that's worse since it won, but this year, they are both really amazing shows. The thing is that WICKED has a really strong plot and point, and it has a lot more subtleties is in messages, whereas AVE Q puts them right out there. WICKED also has better music, as much fun as AVE Q may be (I never thought I'd like a show more than AVE Q until I saw WICKED). Stephanie D'Abruzzio deserves best actress, but both Kristin (especially) and Idina deserve it more. It's too bad AVE Q won't get the recognition it deserves, but it's doing well, so the awards don't really matter.

Just to throw something out there-AWARDS DON'T MATTER ANYWAY.
What matters (or should matter) is not some award or what some reviewer thinks or even my (or someone elses opinion), but if you (yourself) enjoyed or got something out of it (inspiration, catharsis ect.)
At least that's my opinion, I may be wrong.

The awards can keep shows alive that got panned and vice versa. The reason the TONYS doesn't matter as much about AVE Q or WICKED for that matter is that they are both getting about as much business at the box office as they can. Not winning won't change that. Winning though can save a show that got panned and shouldn't have like it did TITANIC--A NEW MUSICAL.
i agree with Cosmik and mominator. i'm hoping that avenue q wins, but i think it will be wicked.
Just like Hollywood with all the movie awards--- when the same title continues to sweep the same category across the board, its a pretty safe bet it will claim the big prize.
Absolutely I think Avenue Q should win, but Wicked is going to pretty much wipe them out. I wish they wouldn't. I certainly don't agree that Wicked has better music, at all.
bythesword - I agree completely - Avenue Q at least has humable tunes - I never hum anything from wicked (thank God)
That's how I feel too, when I leave Q I'm thinking of the songs but when I leave Wicked, I'm really not.
I think that in a perfect world Avenue Q would win best book...I love Wicked in every possible way but Avenue Q is immensly funny and everything...it should win that award...but it probably won't.
yes...Avenue Q's songs are SO catchy and fabulous!
No way!! WICKED ROCKS!
