#0Can we get a "BOOO" for the tonyawards.com interviewer???
Posted: 6/6/05 at 6:28pmOh my lord..this guy is terrible. I'm watching the Winner's Circle Video and he has NO knowledge of what they have done (For example, he asked Jerry Mitchell "Oh! Wait...how are you involved with Broadway Bares???!) He has no charisma, the stars hate him, he has no screen presence and he is nervous as hell all the time. PLEASE HIRE SOMEONE NEW NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!

the guy looks like he's completely not even paying attention. Like...in Cherry's interview, she goes through the WHOOLLLEE theme of Doubt and discusses it. The guy zones out through her little speech and finally he snaps back into the program at the end and makes up some B.S. answer like "Oh yeah! It's like that in all of your plays!" And Cherry looks at him for 3 seconds with a blank stare and says, "Oh..really? What plays?"...he's a humiliation. Plus, never put a fat man in a tux under lights in hot New York in June...I've seen more of his sweat than is necessary....

just go to tonyawards.com....it's on the first page like "Winner's Circle" or "See what the Winner's have to say" or something

Almost the exact same thing happened with those moronic TV Guide Channel people. They asked both David Hyde Pierce and Hank Azaria to name their characters in Spamalot and to say their favorite line. Seriously, they only cared about people on tv or in movies, when many of the nominated talents were kind of blown off.
It ticked me off. It was funny, though, when Harvey Fierstein was mock hitting-on the male interviewer. He was so creeped out; it was like he didn't know that Harvey was kidding.

Posted: 6/6/05 at 7:25pmI didn't get to see the .com video, but I saw parts of the TV Guide Channel's red carpet arrivals. The talent they used was horrible, especially the guy (but at least he kept admitting he didn't know anything about Broadway). Come on, TV Guide could have hired a freelancer just to host that show. Heck, hire an "up and coming" chorus boy to freelance for the arrivals. That way the cable network would be getting someone who is knowledgable (which the stars themselves would appreciate), the audience would be hearing from someone who at least knows what he is talking about, and the freelancer (chorus boy) would get some exposure. It's not that hard.

Posted: 6/6/05 at 7:28pmI had the same revulsion to the TV Guide people. They only seemed to care about household names and the male host even ADMITTED he knew nothing about Broadway and was glad to have the researach person with him. If he knows nothing about theatre, then why in the hell are they having him host the pre-show?!! I couldn't believe it - he wasn't even particularly funny/cute/charming anything that would make the TV Guide folks use him despite his knowledge shortcomings. Dreadful.

AGREED!
And in addiition to discussing it here we whoudl all be sending letters and e-mails to TV GUIDE and letting them know that this sloppy "journalism" will not be tolerated!
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 6/6/05 at 9:04pmWhile I really did not like the TV Guide coverage because the only talked to "Hollywood" types except for Norbert, I won't complain. At least people all over the country who get the station were forced to acknowledge Broadway's existence for a few seconds. It's good publicity no matter what it is.
