re: Carol Bayer Sager

Margo,

Regarding the cabaret Tony-winner/nominee...I guess some things really ARE black & white, if ya know what I mean.

I was SO impressed with her when I was told she was a Tony nominee. And then I found out she was a-lying! Shee-it!

re: Carol Bayer Sager

I'm surprised that "They're Playing Our Song" wasn't even nominated for best score. I guess it was anti-"A Chorus Line" backlash, but still having the Tony Award committee nominate "Eubie", which had songs that had been written eighty years ago, over your show...

That had to hurt.

Maybe Carol Bayer Sager could do a one woman show where she plays Joan Collins...

And Joan Rivers doesn't even look like a real human being anymore...

She sort of looks like Liz Taylor in all of those "White Diamonds" commercials. Maybe they're putting the same Vaseline on the lens.

Yes, Robbie. Some things definitely are black and "white."

I like how they showed the outside if the Continental Airlines Arena for the Exterior shots, but the Simon/Randy/Paula/Carol auditions are At Chelsea Piers!

Other than that, did you enjoy the play Mrs Lincoln?

Who is this cabaret person?

Margo gave major clues. I figured it out pretty quickly.

re: Carol Bayer Sager

I'm not savy when it comes to 1980's references to song lyrics, etc. I was born in 1985.

I thought of Loretta Devine, but I don't think that's right. I'm coming up empty.

re: Carol Bayer Sager

I'm a few years older than you are, Munk, but equally clueless as to the identity of the performer in question. If you figure it out, let me know.

I'd also just like to thank you all for making this the longest thread I've ever started. Even though we've veered far from the original topic, it still gives me an odd feeling of gratification.

re: Carol Bayer Sager

Now, if I hadn't been told before I saw that last clue - I would have gotten that one.

I was thinking in terms of something MUCH more complicated with the black and white clue.

I've never really heard of her, which I'm sure she'd love to hear me say - even though she IS a Tony nominee.

re: Carol Bayer Sager

Margo, if I'm right in who I'm thinking it is--I saw her do a show in a gay bar in Las Vegas when I was in college (in the 80s) and she was claiming to be a Tony winner then.

re: Carol Bayer Sager

We had just done the show she claimed to have won the Tony for and my best friend played her part, so we were really excited to see her at the Gipsy. It was fabulous--she sang "I Am What I Am" wearing a blonde wig then ripped it off on the "come out of the closet" line. It was one of those wonderful surreal moments at 3:00 AM.

She reminds me more of Craig Russell than Joan Collins.
