I know this has been discussed previously, but it certainly deserves another look. There is a Facebook campaign dedicated to this worthy cause. Please bear in mind that you might have other preferences for this honor. However, this thread is solely focused on Carol Channing. Also, I didn't realize that you could go to the Kennedy Center Facebook page and submit a candidate for the honor. https://www.facebook.com/CarolChanningDeservesThe2016KennedyCenterHonor/
Submit A Candidate For A Kennedy Center Honor
I've always wondered if the Kennedy Center Honors are really the highest honor for performing artists. Or did TV producers and the center itself make that call?
What's stopping another facility/institution such as Lincoln Center for creating such a distinction?
i feel like they usually honor people with long and varying careers. hers wasn't really that diverse, she mostly played Dolly and Lorelei ad nauseum. still love her though.
She is of course a legend, but she's spent almost her entire career playing one role. I don't really know if she has the body of work to justify being a Kennedy Center honoree.
Liza as well.
I love Carol Channing, her work ethic, her roles, and greatly admire the work she has done to support arts education in public schools.
If the Kennedy Center was going to honor her, they would have by now. I suspect the powers that be do not want to, for whatever reason.

I have always loved her, but Carol Channing does not deserve a Kennedy Center award. Her body of work is so narrow that there would be no justification.
I personally was once a huge Liza Minelli fan, but I have not been able to stand her for at least 20 years, so I am probably not objective here. I just think she flitted her talent away and has been a cliche, a la Carol Burnett's impersonation of Norma Desmond, for too many years. I must be in a harsh mood, but that is how I fell.
Totally agree with gypsy101...
