Very interesting. Hope everyone that gets a chance to will go and support Caroline and Tonya's vocal cords. She needs a good rest in these next two months so that she can perform as wonderfully as she did in NY. Luckily, the run is only about two months, so it hopefully will not damage her voice permanently.

Oh, my God. I thought I'd never get a chance to see it again. I guess it doesn't always suck to be a theater lover who lives in LA.
I bet Anika Noni Rose gets a gazillion offers for TV work.

I just clicked over to the Ahmanson web site. The new logo has Tonya sporting a grin. I guess the Paul Davis poster was too downbeat for LA folk.

Well, as Ahmanson season ticket holders, I guess this is what we get. I was kind of looking forward to Wonderful Town, but am curious about this piece that everyone talks about. My only exposure is the Tony performance, but I'm willing to forgo that and walk in with an open mind.

You're the first one I thought of when I read the article, DGrant. We will await your review!
That is great that it is spending some time in CA. Not that I can see it there either, but its good to know that it is getting a second wind. I wish I could have seen it...

It is a brilliant show, DGrant, and I think it might be something you would enjoy very much.

Millie - the first people I thought of were Al and Dame - I would imagine they'd be interested. But they may have seen it in New York already.
edit: And I just realized I lied. We saw Anika on the Today Show with the three boys, and we liked that very much.

It is unfortunat that it is playing at the Ahmanson. This show will be lost in such a cavernous house.

Very cool! Caroline was one of the shows I didn't get a chance to see the last time I was in NYC. I'm so glad I have a second chance now that's it's practically in my backyard! Thanks for the heads up! :)

Dame - I wondered about that. We have fairly decent seats, so I'm hoping it's OK.

Holy *bleeping* cow!
I've been cursing myself since I left NYC for not seeing it and YAY! I'll get a chance! (Sorry, just really excited. Woo-hoo!). And with Tonya? It's like a dream come true.
Dame, I was thinking...it would be better in the Mark Taper. Smaller, more intimate.

The Mark Taper is just beautiful. I saw Homebody/Kabul there and loved every second. And it makes no sense they're putting Caroline in the Ahmanson. I guess they're thinking it will be a huge smash.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Many folks think the Paul Davis poster was a contributing factor to the weak sales in NY. Such is the age we live in. Perhaps if the 3 back-up singers had been prominent -- as was later used in the Times ads -- the show's "entertainment" value would've been highlighted. This is good news for the show and the very gifted company. I may be alone, but I think this material may prove to fill the Ahmanson.

Do you mean the show would not seem lost in such a huge space, or it could sell out its run there?

Sorry. I meant the show's semi-operatic style -- the music has real size and grandeur -- may expand to work there, despite the intimacy of the scenes. (After all, LA BOHEME fills the Met, and except for act two, it's all 2-4 character scenes.) I think Tonya and company will adjust accordingly; as to selling, who knows? Opinions?

Unfortunately, while it would be lovely if they were attempting to make a placement based on what's best for the piece, the fact is they were just scrambling to fill the hole left at the beginning of the Ahmanson season.
We saw Lily in Search for Signs there - and if she can fill that space, so can this show

So glad it is getting a new life on the West coast. Plan to fly in from Denver to see it again. Saw it on Broadway and was just blown away! As I have posted before, it was the best thing on B'way last season. (In my opinion!) And it is great that Tonya and Anika will be re-creating their roles. It will be interesting to see who else will be in the cast.
