Oh ok. Playbill.com had June 22 as the release date.
As of about a month ago, the date was pushed to June 29th. I've heard about half of it and its excellent. The score is nothing short of brilliant. Can't wait to receive it!
even though it isnt out yet, you can download it on itunes right now.

I cant wait to hear it. I loved the music in the show. I really like shows with music that tells a story, instead of sweet love songs that teenage girls will become obsesed over and butcher to death at every audition and talent show.

Just reserved my copy at Borders online. Believe it or not, it says that they have it in stock! Usually they do not have CDs for a while.
If you're willing to pay a chunk, Theatre Circle on 44th and Colony already have it.
Just bought the CD it's AMAZING everyone needs to go out and buy it. I got it for about $27 at Barnes and Nobles. I want to be a black women because of this show. WHY DID IT NOT WIN THE TONYs IT DESRVED?

Before shipping and tax, it was $20.
Ok ive never seen caroline, or change and since it is a 2-disc cd, is it a sung through musical? I heard somewhere that the whole libretto is in the cd booklet. So, is everything in the show in the cd? Sorry if its a doumb question.
Yeah, I was also wondering if Caroline or Change was a sung through musical. Shows that are accompanied by 2 CD set cast recordings usually turn out to be shows that are sung through. I know, however, that in Phantom of the Opera, that there is some dialogue in Act 1 (more than Act 2), so there probably is some dialogue in Caroline or Change.
Fully sung. And the full libretto is in the booklet.
I just got home from getting this CD. Best Buy had two coppies and of course they said they had it but it wasn't in with the cast recordings and the guy gave up after about 2 minutes and told me they were sold out. Sure. I started looking around myself and I eventually found it in the Rap section right next to Diana Digarmo's (sp?) new CD.
Ah, you gotta love the big chain stores. They also had about 20 coppies of the original cast of ASSASSINS which I couldn't understand since I've never seen more than one for sale anywhere in my life.
Anyways, listening to the CD, it sounds amazing. It's one of those recordings that you're lucky to get because it fully captures the feeling of the show. As most of us know, not too many cast recordings can do that. If you've seen the show, you definately won't be dissapointed by it and if you haven't seen the show or can't, this is a perfect way to fall in love with it like I did. Tonya Pinkins and cast are flawless and her rendition of "Lot's Wife" had me in tears on the train coming home.
A lot has also been said about Veanne Cox in the show and while I thoroughly enjoyed her on stage, her singing on the CD is so much more powerful and emotional than when I saw her live. That's always SUCH a nice surprise. The rest of the cast again is exceptional and I do recommend picking this up. It is two hours of what will become classic Broadway music and should be included in every collection.
Virtually the whole show is on the 2 CDs. For New Yorkers, Tower at Lincon Center is selling it for $22 plus tax.

I agree with you whole-hearteldy, Matt_G. I saw the show about a month ago in NYC and have been waiting ever since for the CD to be released. I bought it yesterday and it is amazing. When I saw the show, Tonya sounded kinda off (she has that scratchy quality to her belt, which works very very nicely with her character) but it just sounded a little bit too heavy when I saw it. I saw it on a sat. night, so I was just assuming she was tired from the matinee performance, as well. She sounds AMAZING on the CD. I loved her performance of Lot's Wife at the Tony's just because it is an amazingly powerful song, but I know it wasn't her best performance. On the recording, however....WOW. It's just one of those songs...comparable "Rose's Turn" (only better). Veanne Cox also sounds much better on the recording. Her role is very difficult to play, and she captures it perfectly on the recording. As much as I love Idina, Tonya was robbed. Oh well, at least she's already experienced the thrill of a Tony win.
The Circuit City near me is TERRIBLE when it comes to newly released cast recordings. Last night, they had only one copy of Caroline or Change from what I saw. And that's actually good - for them. I remember when I wanted LSOH New Cast Recording, they didn't even have it in their system! That is utter bull because theynhad it on their online system. That was the case with a couple of other cast recordings I wanted. The soundtrack section is a mess...all mixed up. I usually get the recordings at Best Buy, because they usually have them the day they come out, however, they are more expensive. For example, I could have gotten the Wicked CD at Circuit City for $13.99, but I was tired of waiting (I'm impatiend) so I bought it for $17.99, which is ridiculous, at Best Buy. Hey, it was more convienent.
It's been out for a while. When I saw it a few days ago, it was available to purchase there, but they did not have the big, glossy programs, mugs, pins, etc...
A lot of those big chains like best buy, circut city, and even Wal-Mart dont have a good selection of broadway cast recordings. I think Borders is the best PLACE to get them because sometimes theyre on sale, they have good selections, and their computer system is accurate. But online is the way to go for OBCR because they're always cheaper and in stock! =D

Sounds just like me! I went to buy the new Taboo CD and it was not where it was supposed to be. So I asked the info desk if they had it. They ordered one copy...and they said they must have sold it. I knew that was BS, so I went back and looked through every letter in the Cast Recordings. There it was right with CATS.
They just don't get it...
This is why I ordered mine off of Amazon.com.
Circuit City seems to be one of the cheaper places for CDs, yet their selection of Bway recordings sucks. My advice, for those of you who are not old enough to own a credit card, is to go buy a gift card for the price of the CD plus tax at Circuit City. Then use the gift card to buy what you want online. Best Buy doesn't let you use gift cards online. This is also good if you don't like using your credit card information online.

I just picked up a copy from the Virgin Megastore in Times Square (a few blocks from work) for $19.99. I knew it was brilliant when I heard it in the theatre (three times) and listening to the cast album now, I am once again blown away at what a total musical tour-de-force Tesori and Kushner have created. The layers and the character themes and motifs are simply stunning. Each character has his/her own rhythmic and melodic language and Tesori's (and her orchestrators') writing is so rich that whenever any two characters clash in the story, you can hear their motifs competing, blending and/or acting in counterpoint to one another musically at the same time -- Genius.
I defy anyone who saw this show in the theatre and found it "boring" or thought that "nothing happened" to listen to the cast album -- REALLY listen -- and have the same opinion. There are rhythmic and harmonic complexities in every measure of this score -- certainly among the finest compositions written for the musical theatre in many, many years.
