Wow, too bad. I do wish I could have had the chance to see it.
Thank God! Broadway is a great place with just The Lion King, Mamma Mia, Phantom, and Wicked. lol
This is heartbreaking news. (well - perhaps that was a dramatic statement - but YOU know what I mean!)...Caroline is the true definition of ART, and for those who've not seen it - RUN, don't walk, to the theatre and get those tickets. You'll see what a TRUE Tony winning performance is all about (from more than one performer in the show). It just makes me sick that fluff like Wicked, Phantom and all that other crap out there can run for what seems like an eternity, and yet the truly great shows get no support (and I don't need a lecture about what makes Broadway run - Tourism - I know the facts - ) I'm just saying that its a very sad fact indeed.
i DO want to see this again before it closes... (hint, hint)

Does anyone know of the planned vacation that Margo talks about?
Or Margo, if you see this, when is Tonya supposed to be out?
*heart breaks*
It's such a shame to see such a powerful, thoughtful show close. It makes me so sad to see that a true work of art can't survive. I guess I had to have seen it coming, though. This year hasn't been good to me.
Aida, Cabaret, Taboo, this...

In response to Margo's Weissler question - look at their history. They tend to run shows completely into the ground.
thanks DGrant -- I just saw the "Official" CoC thread and saw -- appreciate your response -- there are GREAT seats awaialble this weekend -- use the coupon code from broadwaybox for $56 seat (Row E center 105-106 for tonight) --
These are a couple of messages from Tonya's website...
"Saw Caroline, Or Change yesterday matinee. My wife and I were in the front row with our 7-year old between us. While the story was over his head, he enjoyed the music and performance as much as we did.
Don't know if I've ever seen this much talent assembled in one place -- this show is like medicine and what the world needs now. Especially anyone who came age in the 60s needs to see this. You are great.
Thank you."

"Ever since I got my hands on a recording of the glorious musical that you are so luckily apart of (I am so jealous!), I have been unable to stop listening to it. Also, ever since then you have been my new favorite person in the world! You are so incredible. I am in awe of the life you lead and the fact that you are able to accomplish everything everyday is just incredible. You film a soap opera, you have four children, and you have the largest (and best) role on Broadway. How do you do it all? I love you! I saw the matinee performance of CAROLINE, OR CHANGE on Saturday, July 24th and it changed my life. I showed me that there is some hope for the world of theatre. It showed me that acting is not about hand motions or gestures, it is about truly feeling it. It showed me that there are writers who compose gorgeous pieces of theatre that have continuity and theme and motif and all the elements that actually make you think when you are watching a show. And it showed me that it is ok if people do not like things like this. It is ok if they do not get it. It is over their heads. Let them have their MAMMA MIA and their HAIRSPRAY. CAROLINE, OR CHANGE is what it truly is about. Your performance was a life changing event. My friend and I sat there bawling the entire show because it was so moving. Thank you so much for opening my eyes and for allowing to be in a state of euphoria for two hours. The time I spent watching you and your fellow cast members on that stage was probably one of the most joyful of my life. I mean every word of that. Thank you so much for changing a fifteen year-old boy's life and for changing me as an artist. I will forever be grateful. My friend said at the stage door with tears filling her eyes, "Keep inspiring people." Please, please do so. "

I'm sad to see it closed, but not surprised. Considering the history of Broadway, did anyone truly believe the show would run a long time? I do think it is a beautiful work of art, but it's not a marketable show. I would like to have seen it clear a year, but I'm glad I had the chance to see it. I thought the numbers were pretty good, but if there is little to no advance, it doesn't matter how the weekly numbers add up. It's just too risky to keep it open if you don't know how you will pay your cast, crew, rent, and various running costs.
I wish the best of luck to the insanely talented cast of Caroline, or Change. I hope I can see them all again on Broadway soon.

N, since you habitually take my comments out of context to suit your purpose, let me set the record straight. What I posted back in January before CAROLINE opened on Broadway was my impression based on second hand knowledge of people who had seen it that CAROLINE was tuneless and that it wouldn't last very long on Broadway. I made no criticism of the production or performances as I had not seen them.
Both of those points that I posted 8 months ago appear to be true.
CAROLINE is songless on first exposure. It is not a traditional musical and anyone seeing it and expecting that would be disappointed.
What it also is, in my opinion, is an affecting, equisitely directed and performed piece of musical theatre. Innovative, stylish, and with a strong and powerful message of hope, the strength of family ties, and the belief in oneself. It also says that it's never too late to change one's thinking.
I did once I saw CAROLINE. I also posted my positive personal response to the show I saw it, as you know, too.
So I can say first-hand that CAROLINE will impress anyone who sees it. Everyone may not like it, but everyone will be impressed by its power.
p.s. Speaking about changing one's thinking, care to reconsider accepting that drink I offered to buy you months ago? The voucher is still good.

When's Pinkins' vacation. I'm desperate to see this before it closes and don't want to see it if she's not in it.
That's wonderful news! I've never seen the musical but it's wonderful!
"That's wonderful news! I've never seen the musical but it's wonderful!"
Huh?
Sorry, sweetie, I am in a bad mood... It's all because of me being up until 1:00 am.
Meg
I'm going tomorrow -- got great seats, Row F center...!
I am sick over this !!! Unreal !! And fluff like "Cats", and numerous others stay open forever. I wonder how long "Bombay Dreams" will run !! More classic theater !!!
What a joke !! So glad that I got to enjoy this amazing piece of work a number of times.
Gee. What a coincidence.
It closes right before the GOP convention comes here...
I dunno why, but I think they should take this show to London.
I think it would be VERY strongly recieved there.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I NEED to see this again. Chances are I won't.
Im so mad! This is one of the best new musicals of the year! Only 136 performances?! Im so happy I saw it. The show has only been in the bottom 5 ONCE! Im still totally confused how its closing before WONDERFUL TOWN. Im am speechless!
Now I enjoyed Dracula, but--
Dracula=froth, fluff
Caroline=intelligence, genuinely moving
*sniff*
