...or at least it should have been. It should have lasted so much longer. I personally thought it was a musical for the ages and Tonya Pinkins performance was one of the best I'll ever see. Let the CoC love out right hurr.
i know it was a really wonderful musical, it should've lasted so much longer, the music is really touching and the performances were so strong and enjoyable
...was Adrianne Lenox really Tonya's understudy? Anyone know how she was?

I never got to see it
I didn't get to go to NY while it was on. But I absolutely love the cast recording, it's the most passionate cast recording I have ever heard.
Im also looking for Margo's review of CoC but can't seem to find it by searching...if anyone can find it or if Margo has it saved or something, please post because I know he loved it just as much (probably more) than I did.
wow, audra mcdonald? I dont think she was Tonya's understudy in NY....I saw it in San Francisco, UNBELIEVABLE!
Hehe. Adrianne Lenox not Audra McDonald. Adrianne Lenox is from Doubt.
You simply can't imagine how upset I am that I missed it. My friend and I were going to rush it a week before it closed.
I bought the cast recording, which, being an opera, contains most of the show, but it would still be nice to see it live.

It did...in California.
Such a great show. BEAUTIFUL. I wish I could have seen it. I bet it is a much better experience live.
I think it is one of the all time best musicals.
MattG saw Ms. Lenox--and said she was STUNNING.
and if you'd like to see a local production, MTI is releasing the rights very soon, but i dont know who could pull it off, perhaps a regional theater could
I bet it gets done in community and educational theatres, too. I hope it does. It's a work that needs to be seen!
More cult favorite than classic
That is not meant as an insult..
I heard that Caroline or Change is a really great musical! I have seen a performance somewhere....Good Morning America or something it was really good!
I saw it on the TODAY SHOW, which I'm guesisng you did too. They performed Roosevelt Petrucius Coleslaw.
I'd like to direct you all to my blog (not updated recently) that includes a pretty extensive essay on Caroline or Change. You may find it enlightening or you may not!

If I remember correctly, Adriane Lenox played The Moon down at the Public, but was replaced by Aisha de Hass for the transfer to Broadway. Adriane was then designated as Tonya's understudy, only going on the week after the Tony's due to Tonya's strained vocals.

It will be legendary. Remeber that shows like Sweeney Todd, Follies, and other shows that are "legendary" and alwasy remebered as some of the best shows of all time did not last that long AT ALL. I cant wait in ten years to be like "yeah, I saw tonya pitkins and most of the original cast in Caorline or Change when they came to LA". So great.
HBO filmed the show when it first opened on Broadway. Let's hope a broadcast happens sometime in the near future.
Apparently the National Theatre here in London is interested in the show, so maybe we'll get a mounting over here sometime soon. Even better, maybe they'll follow that up with the European premiere of Light in the Piazza! I can but dream...
I think I heard somewhere that Tonya never missed a show, so that's why Adrianne never went on.
Lenox performed a few shows the week after the Tonys.
