Hi - I thought I'd start this thread about the current CD, since the other place I posted was for Vol. 9.

I found this new track list on AmericanTheaterWeb this morning. The article also talked baout how the Billy Elliot track is a new song by Elton John being premiered on the album.

Does anyone know which performer(s) sang for each show? I checked bcefa.org but that site doesn't have more detailed info either.

Ordered my copy a half hour or so ago. :)

I notice that the track listing order is different in the BWW article than on the BCEFA Store page. Wonder if the article list is in alphabetical order, while the store page lists the actual order as on the CD?

Looks like the track list posted here is in alpha order - I would assume the correct order is on the BCEFA website

I'd like to know if the Avenue Q track has Christy Carlson Romano on it, though I suspect it was recorded before she joined the cast.

This year I'm going to get the first four Carols for a Cure CD. I don't want Volume 10 because I already will have some of the songs that are featured in Volume 10.

Eh...I am guessing Vol 10 is more interesting than the first four volumes, bc it is so much more current and the original recordings were short (like 10-12 songs). Anyway, vol 10 is a regular all-new CD (26 new songs) with some extra, older tracks thrown in since it's the 10 yr anniversary.

Someone asked Jeff at [tos] on Thursday about Carols for a Cure, and he said they did one, but it was cut, so they'll be releasing it on the blog.

And anyone else notice there's two versions of Los Peces en El Rio and I Saw Three Ships with the old songs added?

I'm glad someone else pointed out the duplicate songs.

and I have to comment that "In The Bleak Midwinter" seems an interesting choice for White Christmas.

My CD was waiting for me when I got home from work. I've only listened to a few tracks so far but it's a real treasure

But what show is "The Little Mermaind"?

Received mine a day or two ago and have listened to it alot. what really "makes" the songs for me is if a) the show's composer wrote it or b) it sounds like it could be in the show.

Here are some highlights:
Cold Christmas (Billy Elliot) - Elton John's new song performed by the cast. sounds like it could be in the show very easily.

Away in a Manger (Phantom) - lovely arrangement and singing

Los Peces en el Rio (In the Heights) - smokin! muy caliente!amazingly sung.

I Saw Three Ships (South Pacific) - probably the best blended cast chorus.

Hit the Deck (Xanadu) - fun. clubby.

Christmas Morning (Spamalot) - Merle Dandridge sounds wonderful on this spritely song.

In the Bleak Midwinter (White Christmas) - Jeffry Denman sounds great on this arrangement.

I Wonder as I Wander (Spring Awakening) - another winning track. the show's music director and vocal arranger keep this track sounding like it could be in the show.

Birthday of a King/Go Tell it (Jersey Boys) - arranged by my friend Eric Svejcar, Michael Longoria tears this number up!

Shepherd's Fury (Altar Boys) - their tracks on these discs are always solid.

Season/Love Heals (Rent) - touching, lovely, made me cry.

Of the re-released tracks:
Hairspray's DREIDEL number, Idina's "I Saw three ships", and the little Nick Jonas singing "Christmas Prayer" are all nice to hear.

some misses and/or wasted opportunities:
-Tale of two cities - why so short? didn't anyone want to sing a song on this disc?
-Random Little Shop of Horror production - why?
-Martin Charnin song - what?
-Gypsy - I think we all would've preferred hearing Laura or Patti.
-any Broadway chorus that tries to sing a cappella and a classical style. too much vibrato, too bright, no blend. Your music directors picked bad songs for you.

-Strangely enough - there isn't a contribution from CHICAGO on this year's disc. weird.

Overall, the discs are a good purchase and at least as good as it's predecessors.

Wow - great review! I agree on almost everything and cannot stop listening to In the Heights, Phantom, Spring Awakening, Lion King & Jeffry Denman for White Christmas.

My three comments to you review are these:

I'm sure everyone would have preferred to hear Patti or Laura B from Gypsy, but they can't be heard if they don't show up to record!! Neither of them ever do when they're in shows.

Secondly, I know the Little Shop thing is there bc that theater in Long Island helped out with fundraising last year during the strike and raised a lot of money for BC/EFA (check link below). It's not my fav track, not the worst, but it was nice of them to have helped. They're going to collect again this year too, so kudos to them.

Lastly, I totally agree that the quasi-classical, a capella tunes are always the weakest (YF). I would way rather hear something that captures the spirit of the cast. I don't know why anyone insists on doing those. This is an opoportunity to be creative and fun and I wish everyone would take it (listen up MDs)!!

Great CD as usual but I was disappointed that A Tale of Two Cities was so short and kinda random. I was expecting a better song to end the first CD.

And if that is true I can't believe that they cut [title of show]'s song and kept the crappy Hanukah Song from The Wedding Singer. They could've at least picked a better song from that year, which had a ton of great songs.

The scoop I got on [tos] was that they submitted a song they had pre-recorded themselves but it was sort or dirty &/or inappropriate for a family audience so it couldn't be used.

Yes, and amazingly rapped by Lin-Manuel too.
I was boppin' along the whole time.

I knew they were going to use the Gipsy Kings version because it rocked really hard, as does their show.
