Carrie Sept 20th?

Sooooo on Wikipedia it says:
On September 4th 2008, A brand new website for the musical, CarrieTheMusical.com stated: "Bring Your Date. September 20th.".
The site www.carriethemusical.com is down right now but looking at a cached version it does say that.

Anyone know anything??????????

OMG, first Carrie, then Rebecca... this is wayyy too much happiness for one day!!! OMG OMG OMG!!! =). I don't know anything yet tho =(. Keep me posted!

I wouldn't put much stock in any rumors on wikipedia since anybody can go in and update it. I'm just sayin'.....

But about the video. I always get a kick (no pun intended) out of watching the opening number. The aerobic choreography makes me tired just watching it. The song is somewhat catchy but if they ever revive Carrie, I'd like see a new opening number, one that establishes the student characters better. "In" establishes nothing.

Yea I know Wiki is not the most reliable place, but the fact that if you check out the address is does exist as official and there are a half dozen or so vids that are now mentioning it leads me to thing something might be up, that’s all

I love the part where they sing the lyrics "I go Crazy" and they repeatedly smack the stage on the word Crazy.

LOL Me too about hte crazy part!!!!

And I kind of liked the opening. I would welcome that one back as the only ensemble song to be back...all the others were ahhhh whyyyyyyy!

And Carrie would be almost a huge hit now because of it's legacy, regardless of what they put on stage. Stephen King, let alone, has only gotten more famous as well!

They are indeed working on a new version of Carrie, as per its licensing agents. I inquired about performing it this year and the reply was that they will not be allowing companies to produce it until the new version is completed.

If any readers of this thread are in the Boston or Central Mass. area, you may be interested to know that Betty Buckley is in concert at the Hanover Performing Arts Center in Worcester on Saturday, Sept. 20, 8 p.m. I doubt that she'll be doing any selections from "Carrie" but she does have two new cd's out.

Which is why I put that in my original post. They could put pure garbage and it will remain open for atleast a year! Honestly, it doesn't matter how good it's going to be because people will always go thinking "I can't wait to see how bad it is."

Carriethemusical.com is the official "new" site for the carrie blogspot/fansite that is on the net right now. It has nothing to do with any revival of the show, just a more official looking page then the current one.http://carriefansite.blogspot.com/2007/04/history-of-carrie-musical.html

What liscencing agent? CARRIE isn't part of any of the liscencing companies that handle broadway shows (MTI, Sam French, TRW, etc).

Scarywarhol, just wait till hear some of the other ensemble songs. They're truly dreadful. But the mother/daughter songs are pretty good. I also like the title song and "Unsuspecting Hearts".

Get a copy of "Not Since Carrie: 40 Years of Broadway Musical Flops"

Ken Mandelbaum gives a very detailed and informative history and analysis of the show. Carrie was heartbreaking in that it encompassed pretty much every genre of the flop: the big name vehicle (Betty Buckley, Debbie Allen making her debut as a Broadway choreographer), the star to be vehicle (Linzi Hateley would have become a phenomenon had the show succeeded), a score that had moments of brilliance surrounded by laugh out loud mediocrity, and so many other factors.

From what he wrote, and I have read elsewhere, the show may have had some potential in the hands of a better director. I believe it was Charlotte d'Amboise who said that after the run at Stratford the biggest problem was that nobody wanted to admit what was wrong with the show and fix it. They went into rehearsals in New York and just continued to drill those grueling dance numbers into the floor as opposed to doing any real work.

I think there are only three numbers that can not really be salvaged in some form or another if the show is ever reworked. "Don't Waste the Moon," which is wildly off tone and just does not seem to fit in at all with the rest of the show. "Out for Blood," which seems to be where the audience finally loses all faith that anything good can come out of what they are witnessing. And "I'm Not Alone," which again just does not fit the tone of what is going on in that scene. Carrie's powers are a reflection of her inner turmoil, not a cheap parlor trick that warrants a soft shoe number.

I find the "CARRIE could work!" enthusiasts to be somewhat hilarious. The central problem: How exactly does one address the issue of the prom destruction? My guess is its impossible.

Actually, when I did a design of the show for a classroom project, the biggest problem was not the destruction but the blood. When presenting the model in class and asked by my professor how the blood dousing would be achieved my reply was "That's special effects, not scenery." (Luckily I had already gone above and beyond the requirements of the project, so he couldn't penalize me for not having an answer there).

However, with the advances in projection and video integration the destruction itself would not be as hard to achieve. I also integrated things such as a mirror ball that "dropped" into the crowd, as well as i-beams that would be rigged to allow a drop and pieces of the walls that would be able to be "blown" away with accompanying pyro effects.

The history of stage craft is full of special effects. You just need to do some research and not stage the kids to "die" behind a plastic shower curtain while Carrie shoots them with her lasers.

I love "Carrie could work!" enthusiasts too. There's so many. I like a lot of the material, but it's just not really going to work too well on stage ever. The destruction's just one of the many 'questionable' scenes as to how will they do that? That's one of the worst scenes I'd every seen, regardless of the show. Carrie looks like a red glowing Jesus for some reason! Similar to the Helicopter in Miss Saigon, it's just one of those scenes I don't feel could work by using video, maybe not even projections. People would feel cheated probably with video, especially at today's prices (& one can only imagine how expensive those tickets could be), just because it'd be from the movie! Projections are OK, but it'd still look pretty goofy with the people there.

The only thing I could think of that would look resonably decent: have some sort of barrier on the stage acting as a door, with Carrie walking out with "the roof" falling down and either go black, or have the students/etc. go down on the trap doors.

Not only that, I love people who say "a Carrie revival would be a huge hit!" No s*, when 34785874754 people want to see how it could be so bad/why it flopped, it's bound to get great business, which is probably why the writers or whoever holding back won't budge with leasing the rights. Doesn't matter what they put on stage, it's still going to be wow..this is Carrie.
