I actually own the Titanic cast recording. I think I've listened to it once, and not even all the way through.
I love Cabaret but the recording from the most recent revival is lacking something for me. I think it's Sally.
Also can't stand The Producers. And I worked for Sony Classical when the recording was going on. It just doesn't represent the show well in my opinion. The songs work better within the context of the show. I listened to it a few times for work but that was it.
As far as Spelling Bee goes, I listen to that recording at least once a week. I think it helps to have seen the show though.
I absolutely loathe "Light in the Piazza." Like with a passion. I was so appalled to see it win so many Tonys... I mean kill me now. People have said it's amazing technically but I just don't see it. It's SOOO boring...
And I get where people are coming from with the "Putnam Cty Spelling Bee". Like I got the CD before I went to see it and I was like holy crap can I sell my ticket before I go to see it??? And then I went and saw the show and I don't think I've laughed that hard ever and now I absolutely ADORE the soundtrack. It's like I can picture exactly who's singing and what's happening and ahhhh PERFECTION!
Into the Woods
Lucky in the Rain
Les Miserables
Man of La Mancha (revival)
Beauty and the Beast
The Lion King
Light in the Piazza
I don't hate these but they rarely make it to the cd player anymore. And whoever said Full Monty should have won best music over The Producers... I AGREE! i love David Yazbek. Both Full Monty and Dirty Rotten got screwed at the Tonys.
