i don't listen to the beauty and the beast recording anymore, even though i'm currently participating in the musical.

I'm with ashley. I can't listen to Annie (10 year old divas just kill me). I can't stand Bye Bye Birdie, either, or Lil' Abner. And I own them all. Why?

I hate the OBC of Rent. The cast is so bad and Daphnie Rubun Vega cannot sing at all! I love the movie though
Music Man
And then these are ones I like but I guess rarely listen to...Producers and Spamalot.
Fiddler on the Roof (last revival) and Pacific Overtures (revival). I can't get through either one of them.

for those who hate the HAIR cast recording, is it the OBC? I hated that too, I love the Actors Fund Benefit Recording!!

wickedfreak...you love the Rent movie, which is mostly the OBC but you hate the OBC? How does that make sense?

If Daphne Rubin-Vega couldn't sing then she wouldn't have been hired to star on a sung-through musical that turned out to be one of the biggest Broadway phenomena in years, and she wouldn't have been hired to star in a musical by one of the best musical theater composers, Mr.LaChiusa. She doesn't have a smooth, clear voice, but neither do Chita Rivera, Carol Channing, Elaine Stritch, Angela Lansbury or Bea Arthur, are you going to say that they can't sing either? That is, if you even know who those legends are. Plus, Daphne sure acts the hell out of all those songs in the Rent OBC. Also, it is Daphne Rubin-Vega, you should learn to spell the name before criticizing the artist.

I also don't buy CD's of shows I hate, but there are shows that I don't listen to very often (though I enjoyed them enough to buy the cast recording in the first place), like AIDA, Saturday Night, The Producers, Urinetown. It's not that I don't like them, its just that each show and each cast of a show has a certain flavor and style that is unique to their production, and a lot of times I'm not in the mood to listen to that particular flavor of music.

I hate it when people start criticizing Daphne's singing. Obviously she can sing or she would never have made it to Rent in the first place. It's just her style of singing that you don't like.

The original "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown"... the revival CD is SOO much better...
definitely
scarlet pimpernel
fame: the london cast recording. The show (no matter where in the world it was put on) was bad but this recording is even worse.
my fair lady
hairspray, its so-annoying!
(ducks from the angry tomato throwing hairspray fans)
Okay I love Rent to death and have for years, and I think everyone is amazing in the OBC but I must say I don't love the recording, and I've heard that the OBC don't love it either. Don't get me wrong I listen to it all the freakin time, but it was not done well, and even they say that, but they all can sing outstandingly!!! and I love the Aida soundtrack it makes me cry though haha
Ah FoscasBohemianDream, your prose isn't perfect either, be a little nicer :P
Yeah, that was definitely just about the most hypocritical thing I've ever said in my life.
Anyway, Chita can sing, so can Angela, Elaine patters, and Carol croaks until our ears bleed. Daphne isn't the greatest singer but she doesn't make me want to go kill myself. I saw a great Mimi in RENT a few years ago though who COULD sing, and boy, I suddenly liked the character. Daphne gets parts that suit her voice.
In fact--I'm no RENT expert, but when they originally cast the show didn't they try for people with non traditional sounding voices? I.E. people who weren't really trained, would more rock out the songs imperfectly?
Anyway, I'm not a big fan of Lippa's Wild Party or John and Jen. I don't hate them or anything though. I don't really hate anything. If I don't like stuff I usually just don't buy it.

Yes, Adam has said frequently that he doesn't like it but I've listened to that recording for so long that I never found any fault with it until people said negative things about it. I still don't really.
It all comes down to personal choice people! Everyone has different tastes so don't criticise people coz they have different opinions than yours! I am sure there are shows/performers that you don't like that others do - like the amount of people who have written CATS - there are also a lot of people who do like the show or it wouldn't have been so popular! So don't be quick to judge as I am sure you won't like it when someone doesn't agree with your opinion in the future - it's a free world and nobody has to think or like the same things - it would be pretty boring if we did!:)

With only one or two songs that are tolerable, Bring Back Birdie takes the cake for me.
Spelling Bee....felt like I wasted my money. Maybe after I see it, I'll 'get it'. Seriously, I bought it thinking I could use a song or two for my fifth grade, end of the year, imovie and slideshow. Ha! Imagine the trouble I'd be in for using a song from the show!
There's a Flowers for Algernon musical? (Someone mentioned it earlier.)
Eh, I don't hate it, but it is a shame that the OBC "Follies" was so abridged.
Spamalot
Movin' Out (Great show, but I'd rather listen to Billy Joel)
How to Succeed Revival (The OBC is such much livelier and better, the revival is awful)
The recent Fiddler revival
Brooklyn (Why did they bother?)

Passion with Maria Friedman
The Woman in White (which has nothing to do with Friedman, I just find both to be intolerably dull).
I hate my WICKED cast recording. In lieu of the overproduced, empty music on that CD i usually pop in my (from napster.com) downloaded version of the San Francisco pre-BRoadway run which is LIVE and which is SO much better, it gives me the intensity and drama of being at the show again.
