There are times that I purchased cast recordings and only listened to a few and on occassion only one time. Here's my list:
Gypsy (current incarnation; didn't even get through 1 time)
The Producers
The Lion King (gave the CD away)
Aida (gave the CD away)
Mamma Mia (1 time)
Can't see why anyone would not love the current GYPSY CD. Bernadette Peters' vocals are breathtaking. (And both Sondheim and Jule Styne's widow have gone on record to say that they regard her performance as being the definitive Rose.)
As for CDs I've bought and hated -
MARIE CHRISTINE
THE WILD PARTY (La Chiusa version)
BAT BOY
The only one that comes to mind is the OBC of Les Miserables. This is my all time favorite show, but I have to be in a really forgiving mood to listen to the Broadway cast. Frances Rufelle, Randy Graf, and particularly David Bryant make me want to rip my CD player out of the wall.
David Bryant was a very poor choice to play Marius. He was no better in the theatre either (I used to work there and was always happy when the understudy was on).

No, No Nannette - hated it at first, liked it a bit after, haven't listened to it for a long time
Company (original recording)- I dont like this version but the new cast recording is awesome
The Rocky Horror Picture Show ( original london cast)- my god is the sound of this cd god awful and this is one of my favourite musicals
For me:
THE WILD PARTY (La Chiusa version)
INTO THE WOODS (The Revival) - Well, 60% of it.
SHE LOVES ME (Just not a fan of the music)
Anyone Can Whistle Live at Carnegie Hall with Angela and Bernadette. Just do not like it.
I cannot believe how many people have listed LaChuisa's The Wild Party. That is one of my favorites. Funny.

There are so mnay I bought and have not even listened to.
But there are some I just could not get into
BAT BOY
THE FULL MONTY
THE WILD PARTY (BOTH VERSIONS)
JANE EYRE
It's hard to listen to a Cast Recording one time and decide that it's awful. When I first listened to Sunday in the Park with George, I loathed it! I thought it was terrible. However, after I listened to it a few more times, I began to get drawn in with Sondheim's powerful lyrics and music. Now, I can't STOP listening to it.
Yes, it is funny how someone can love a score while another can hate it. I find each single song in The Wild Party utterly horrible, Shermanslave. What a boring world it would be if everyone agreed on everything!
BTW, Windycityactor - I love the score for SHE LOVES ME!
Gypsy (Peters)
My Life With Albertine
The Producers
Notre Dame de Paris (and the parade of new European popsicals)
Follies (any version)
The Wild Party (Lippa)
Fosse
Annie Get Your Gun (any version)
Company (Broadway Revival)
BudFrump, same here. I think it's this way with all Sondheim's music. You can't get into it at first. But the more you listen to it, the more you love it. I adore SITPWG.
Again it's intriguing to find that someone hates FOLLIES (any version). I think it is the greatest score ever written for musical theater.

Nine - London Concert Cast. Ugh. Just...ugh. Turned me off of Nine for a long time, especially Elaine Paige's insulting attempt at Claudia. ~sigh~ Love the new recording, though. Can they just make a film with the revival cast?
Producers OBC. Just cannot listen to the CD.
Those are the two that spring to mind. Anyway, my "shocked it's listed" is the Company OBC - everything I've heard from the revival recording is shockingly below the level of the original.

Finn's ELEGIES. I cannot warm to a single song, and I otherwise like Finn.
MARTIN GUERRE
MARIE CHRISTINE
GREENWILLOW. I keep thinking it must be wonderful, because it's the great Loesser, but it always feels just so precious. The only song I like is one I love and am deeply moved by, Anthony Perkins singing "Never Will I Marry." (Judy Garland did a great cover of it, by the way...)
I can certainly name a few CDs, but I am really surprised to see MARIE CHRISTINE listed so many times. I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I think it's genius! I love all the different musical styles and instrumentation (the percussion is amazing!). But everyone has different tastes.
I thought the CD GODSPELL was horrible at first, but I listened to it over and over, and then changed my mind completely! Breathtaking score!

The only song I can stand from Elegies is "Anytime". It's a strange song with silly lyrics ("When I'm gone, I'll still be there...") kind of stuff. However, the way it's sung is what draws me in. I don't pay attention to her words, but her notes.
The It girl... i've had it for 6th months and i still can't get through it.

Roxy, I second that- Rent. It was much better live...many years ago.

The Dreamgirls concert recording. I find myself skipping to the songs that were on the OBC recording, the one everybody complained about for being truncated.
