I could do without the most recent recording of "Joseph..." featuring a majorly artifical Amy Adams and Patrick Cassidy. I also despise the 1996 revival recording of "Company" - aside from LaChanze's "Another Hundred People" and Veanne Cox's "Getting Married Today", there's not a single track I enjoy.

"Brooke Shields in Grease and Wonderful Town - was that really necessary when the revival recordings were fine the way they were?"
yeah, why would they do this? I've heard both of them, and she is definitely NOT better than Donna Murphy, and although she may sing better than Rosie, she doesn't have her charisma and IT"S ROSIE! Were these recordings paid for by Shields?

Brooke Shields isn't Murphy on the re-recording of "Wonderful Town", but she's not atrocious, and it's nice to hear a different take on "One Hundred Easy Ways". For me, what makes the re-recording worthwhile is Jennifer Hope Willis, mainly in "Conversation Piece" - it's nice to hear a legit coloratura sing it.
As for Grease, yeah, that recording sucks. I also regret a recent purchase of "The Thing About Men" - although I love the performers in the cast (especially Marc Kudish) the music (especially the lyrics) are banal and uninspired. And finally, the recording of "Billion Dollar Baby" with Cheno is also pretty boring.
I guess it's safe to say that I agree with Luponatic...I don't regret any cast recordings being made, but I do regret buying those i don't like.
