Casting call for a real live doll to play Barbie in musical tour

This proves how much of an asinine these people are:

"You know how the film stars do it, where they get successful and then go back to do a play -- she's just following in that same tradition."

Because...doing theatre is SUCH a step down from success and doing solely theatre isn't really success, now is it?

(Sticks finger down throat- much like Barbie.)

I would hardly call Mattel a fake company.

This little venture proves what a sick society we live in.
Barbie has and always will be a bad role model for little girls.
How many tall skinny blondes are there really. And Barbie makes children unhappy with themselves if they don't look like that.
Barbie creates anorexic, eating disorders and unhappiness with many young girls. I think the world should not embrace plastic.
There should be Kate Monster dolls because most of the world are not Barbie.
Thank G-d, my parents took me to real theatre at age 3.
I think a show about Barbie is repulsive.
Maybe Tracy Turblad dolls would be the answer.
This thread makes me sick.

Aren't Bratz dolls kind of taking over? I used to have dozens of Barbies when I was younger.

That was perhaps one of the worst articles I've ever read. Every person quoted just sounded moronic and greedy. I don't know if it's just how the author broke up the quotes or what, but no one came out of that article sounding intelligent to me. Though I hated Barbies myself when I was younger and was always more of a stuffed animal girl.

Didn't you forget that Barbie was remodeled to more realistic proportions? They even re-designed the face for the very reasons you pointed out in your post.

From reading your post I gather your anger goes much deeper than just a Barbie doll.

Your suggestion of a Kate Monster or Tracy Turnblad leads me to believe you may be overweight. I may be wrong though.

Anyway the reverse isn't right either. If we tell kids it's "okay to be fat" what will happen then? Will we wind up raising a nation of overweight kids? Being overweight and saying it's "okay" isn't necessarily healthy either.

Those who let themeselves be guided by images of dolls, etc have much more deeply rooted problems IMO.

That's not where i was coming from. I meant that being over your weight or obese is not healthy. Then again being emaciated isn't healthy either. That's why they're called OVERweight and UNDERweight respectively. I don't expect everyone to be tanned and buffed either, let's be realistic.

i owned millions of Barbies. I never saw them as them being a role model. As kids we don't think too much on being as thin as Barbie. i simply looked at it as a doll who usually had cute clothes it could change into. Besides they are only plastic...

Ugh. The idea of "Barbie! Live in Fairytopia" or whatever coming anywhere near me makes my skin crawl. And just please... if it has to be in NYC at all, confine it to Madison Square Garden for 3 weeks like Dora the Explorer Live.

NOW that being said, I'd probably think very differently if I were 6.

However, I really don't think there's as much of a problem with Barbie as a role model as people think there is. Seems to me it's more like "I want to be a doctor becuase I have Doctor Barbie" and frankly, it's not the best reason, but it's certainly not bad either. As a kid, I never gave looking like Barbie a second thought. My Barbies were fun dolls with lots of clothes to change into and hair that I could style.
