Celebrating 10 Years of TONY

This year I'm celebrating 10 years of watching the TONYS. We all know that there have been some excellent and (in my opinion) many pitiful ones. I'll never forget the first year I watched (and recorded) the Tonys. Anyone remember back 10 years ago? Rosie opened with Patti, Jennifer, Betty and the fellas from CHICAGO.
It's really hard to believe that it's been 10 years since I first started watching. And what a great year to get in on the action- SOOO many great performances; RAGTIME, The Lion King, Side Show, 1776, and The Sound of Music.
So my question is...In the last 10 years, what are some of your favorite and least favorite TONY shows?

I loved when Bernadette Peters and Gregory Hines co-hosted.
Fabulous telecast.

I thought it was very lame in 1999 when Tom Wopat opened singing "another openin' of another show" and then Bernadette joined...and then a few years later, Bernadette opened the show doing the exact same thing..
Favorite performances: I Will Never Leave You(Side Show),Circle of Life (The Lion King), My New Philosophy (YAGMCB), I'm Flying(Peter Pan), Rose's Turn(GYPSY), 2001 Opening with the 42nd Street Cast, "One Night Only" opening.
Least Favorite performances: Defying Gravity, The Wild Party, A Year with Frog and Toad, Sweeney Todd, 2006 Opening,

Posted: 4/20/08 at 12:47pmI think that the 2004 opening was the best opening, but right up there is the opening with Rosie and the Divas.

Tom Wopat opened the 1999 show (with Bernadette joining him) with the song There's No Business Like Show Business from Annie Get Your Gun which they were both starring in at the time as well as both nominated that night for Tonys. Bernadette did open, what was it maybe 2005, with Another Opening, Another Show.

The year AVENUE Q won.
That was also the year Hugh Jackman performed his BOY FROM OZ sketch with Sarah Jessica Parker, AVENUE Q gave a top notch performance, and Idina Menzel scratched out the ears of all 6,000 people watching across the U.S.

My favorite moments are
Hugh Jackman doing Boy from Oz;
Lane and Broderick hosting the pre-CBS show on PBS in chairs and smoking jackets. Was it Glen Close who yelled "They've done it" when Producers picked up its 56th Tony Award? - still shocked it won for best play and best musical
Sideshow number
Wedding Singer number
Avenue Q number
Elaine Strich acceptance speech

Posted: 4/24/08 at 11:27amI attended the 2006 Tonys and was disappointed with the opening for that telecast. Not a Harry Connick Jr. fan to start with but he just had no energy.

Posted: 4/24/08 at 11:49amMy Least favorite moment in the past 10 years tonys was the pajama game performance. Just terrible, it has led me to just hate that show and connick jr. I agree that the 2004 tonys were great! One of my favorite telecasts. Last year was great though seeing Raul sing Being Alive and being a crazy fan of spring awakening I was happy about 6 of their 8 tonys (2 I dont think they should have gotten)

Oh, and Julie White's win and acceptance speech last year was like an orgasm for every theatre queen across the nation.
I LOVE HER!
