I generally don't have any more - nor less - interest in 'known' people as opposed to the 'unknown.' However, I would have been curious to see Liza's reaction the evening she went to see BOY FROM OZ. It must have been an interesting experience for her.
I met Sarah Jessica Parker at '42nd Street' years ago. My friend, sister, and I all went up and said hi during intermission and she was so sweet. Her body guards were nice too. They were sitting 3 or 4 rows in front of us and evidently Geraldo Rivera was sitting a few rows behind us but I didn't really know who he was. The second time I went to see 'Hairspray', I think Steven Spielberg was there with his son. The night before, Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart had been there. The first time I went to see 'The Producers', Hugh Hefner was there with a bunch of his Bunnies. -Penny
"I'm a pretty girl, mama." -Penny Lou Pingleton, Hairspray
"You like football, Ed?" "Yeah..." "Good. Me too." -Chad & 'Ed', All Shook Up
I was lucky enough to be invited to the special performance when A CHORUS LINE became the longest running Broadway show. When I walked up to the ticket-taker to hand her my ticket there were three other people approaching her at the same time -- Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline and Mikhail Barishnikov. When I saw CITY OF ANGELS I sat behind Madonna and Warren Beatty and sat right next to Liza.
"You got the same dress I got?" "Yes.""You got the same wig I got?" "Yes." THEN SHUT UP!
Liza Minnelli never went to The Boy From Oz, and she said she never will, though she respects Hugh Jackman as a performer.
I have the world's worst face-name connection and recognition skills, so if I've run into celebrities I haven't noticed. I do have a friend who saw Hugh Jackman at a show. (Wicked? I don't remember now.)

The lights were starting to go down for Phantom of the Opera...and I was wondering why the seat next to me was empty....suddenly Tom Cruise plopped down next to me.
It was quite strange having everyone turning to look in my direction during the show.....I wanted to fade away into my seat!!!
probably bad wording, but do celebrities sit anywhere in the theater? i've got few rows up the balcony in the center for both Wicked and POTO this weekend.. i'd love to have someone famous next to me... hollywood (and of course broadway a lot lately) is my life !!
I was at WICKED last January. No one spotted me, thank goodness.
(Get it? THANK GOODNESS...WICKED! ha...ha...ha)
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I have seen celebs in the theater and on the streets. Sometimes they are easily recognizable, sometimes not.
42nd Street - Mel Brooks and Ann Bancroft. Hairspray- Rosie with her son, Jerry Orbach with his wife. Enchanted April - Mrs. Garret from the Facts of Life. I can't think of her name off hand.
On the street- Mario Cantone Ann Reinking George Hamilton Henry Winkler
J. You are weird.
