AWGTHTGTTA = Are We Going To Have To Go Through This Again ... truly any emergency warranting someone reaching you can be achieved via a call to the Box Office (and if warranted) a theater staff member being recruited to reach you in the theater.
Just what did people do before cell phones - (oh, I know - don't tell me) - enjoyed less obvious (but still entitled) theatergoers.
I have to ask: Are you one of the people who think a "Stop" sign means "Yield" for you and no one else?
Personal note: I once was at Off Broadway production of "The Screwtape Letters" and a young girl was texting (yes - with a bright screen) across the aisle from me. I thought, wait, is this the devil himself tempting me to be intolerant? No - I decided not and advised the young lady that what she was doing was distracting and rude.
Final advice dear theater patron with need to use phone - patronize NetFlix and simply forget what live theater offers.

The OP started trouble that didn't need to be started. You should've just shut off your phone and ended it there. There was no reason to confront the person because you did something disrespectful in a theatre.
Also why do you assume that people react like that only at Sunday matinees. I would've had the same reaction any day of the week.
BTW don't think that the actors can't see you. Even if the phone is on for a second, it lights up your ENTIRE FREAKING FACE!!!

Turn your cell off (or on airplane mode, if you can't even conceive turning it off). Enjoy the show. The rest can wait.
Now, where do I send flowers to the moth smelling lady?

Okay so you mention: "So I went to confront this moth ball smelling person."
Dare I ask? Sure - why not? I will ask three questions:
(1) Where was the moth ball this person was smelling? (Forget I asked this - I don't want to know.)
(2) What would possess you to confront a person smelling a moth ball in the theater? (Wouldn't that indicate someone who did not practice theater attendance etiquette?)
(3) Wait a minute - am I missing that there was a moth in the theater and this person was smelling its ____? (Never mind - TMI)

Posted: 9/10/14 at 2:51pmI can totally sympathize with the original poster. If I was on Team Mothball I would have been much more diplomatic and suggested a compromise solution where the phone could be shoved far enough up the arse of the offender that its screen would not be a distraction to others. The muffled vibrate would alert the user to any new mmessages and perhaps be a source of pleasure given a large number of messages. #vivateammothball

"To the opinion that the glow of an iphone screen is distracting well then maybe you should tested from attention deficit disorder."
Even Same if the light/noise of the vibration annoy only people with adhd (which is not, you should turn you phone off. I have ADHD and I love theater. But now, it become unpleasant because of the public's behavior. Maybe it's not one "tiny light", but when everyone is thinking like you (phone, whispering, eating), it takes me a lot of effort to stay focus on the show.
I want to keep going to theater. I don't ask special requests, only that people follow the rules already in place.
So I will not stop to go to theater. And I will no stop to complain about people who have distracting behaviors for selfish reason.

The show? It's called 'Nothing'; there are no actors, there is nothing on stage. The place is packed. Every person has paid premium to see Nothing.
If you arrive without a cell phone-the usher will GIVE you one.
For the next 2 hours you can talk/txt/vibrate/sing along with/take pictures of and about ABSOLUTELY NOTHING as you are disturbing NOONE as there is nothing going on.
There will only be 2 announcements-One, when to start using your cell phones and Two ,when the performance of Nothing has finished. Please tell your friends[if you havn't already done so while YOUR show was on] how great the show was and that you have finally found a place that only cost $200. to sit quietly in the dark, and txt.for a couple of hours.
Oh nearly forgot-starting next season with Almost Nothing-all types of food will be able to be brought into the theater, yes, spicy and tuna, PLUS a port-a-loo will be at the end of each aisle for your convenience.
Any other suggestions to make your theater going experience more enjoyable, please send a txt during the performance.
