With the exceptions of Kristen and Roger Bart, the revival totally missed the tone and humor of the show. For example, Anthony Rapp played Charlie Brown as a pathetic whiny loser, and CB is NOT a loser. He just never ever wins...but he keeps trying.
It seemed to be directed towards kids, but the show doesn't work as 'Children's Theater.' It is meant for adults (with kid appeal). The humor is very sophisticated, and has to be directed so that the entire cast is on the same page, and this failed miserably. I also hated the new arrangements and songs meant to make the show bigger- when you take the sweet (but not sappy) ending lullaby 'Happiness' and turn it into Peanuts Dance Party, it just doesn't work. At least, it didn't work for me.
That said, Kristen and Roger really DID give Tony-worthy performances- they were just sadly surrounded by mediocrity.
