Currently, Tyne Daly is starring in the limited-run "Chasing Mem'ries - A Different Kind of Musical" at the Geffen Playhouse in LA. The show, written by the songwriting team of Alan and Marilyn Bergman, has gotten very good reviews (dare I say 'rave'?). It ends in a few weeks.
Does anyone know if there has been any talk of bringing this to Broadway either in the Spring or 2018-19? With or without Tyne Daly in the starring role (as much as I would love to see her on B'way again, I'm kind of thinking Glenn Close may be the bigger draw for this show).
Any info is appreciated! Rumors and "backstage whispers" always welcome - sometimes they come true. ![]()

It wasn't written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. They're just using some of their already existing songs for the musical interludes. Tyne Daly has gotten very good to rave reviews. The show itself has gotten mediocre reviews. Sorry to burst your bubble but there's no chance it's coming to Broadway.

Thanks for the (disappointing) info! LOL! I thought the Bergmans had a hand in writing it, after I watched a recent interview with them. I thought the reviews for Daly and the show were pretty good - it's not a cheerful story for mainstream audiences, but it seems like they did it successfully. Was hoping it would take a small venue on Broadway.

The Geffen subscriber base skews older so a small sentimental show about loss with a name actress who's universally.loved was a pretty safe bet for the holidays. I don't think anyone is thinking this is Broadway material. Of course I could be wrong. If you would have told me there was going to be a Broadway musical about SpongeBob, I would have laughed at you.
BTW, a review on Goldstar made me laugh. "Tyne Daly was wonderful. Is the show any good? Who cares!" Don't get me wrong, happy I saw it. Great to see Tyne and been a Robert Forster fan for many years so wonderful to see him on stage. Met him last year at another show we were both attending. Chatted with him for about 5 minutes. He could not possibly have been nicer.
I saw it last week. It's a "different type of musical" but basically its a play with music. In the talk back Tyne said that its not a broadway showtune singing.. more like a normal widowed wife who is singing along to her lps in the attic. The story was okay.. very medicore. Tyne was on stage the entire act (only one act long). She does give an amazing performance that makes you cry & laugh. I could see this play transfer off-broadway at the very most. I gave it a 3.5 out of 5. It is a great night at the theatre. Very moving show.
Sounds like it might work best at 54 Below for a week long engagement.

It was a delightfully poignant story portrayed by three excellent actors. It was a play with a musical backdrop of gorgeous Bergman songs, one in particular, "The Trouble With Hello Is Goodbye". Thoroughly enjoyed the show.
Thank you all for the information and personal reviews. It actually sounds like something I would actually enjoy. Hopefully, it may end up off-Broadway with Daly and that would be my chance to see it. Who knows? Maybe someone will take a chance on it next year....
(Can't see it after all. I am verklempt.)
