'Well, will it ever be made? Yes, I do think it will be made. I think -- you know, there's some sort of thing going on right now where everyone's hearing that there's going to be a movie. You know, there will be a movie. But I believe -- and I could be wrong, but I believe it will be years before we see it as a movie, because -- you know, Universal will really want to make sure that they suck it dry, so to speak in all the theaters. And if you look at movies like Chicago and Phantom of the Opera those were 20, 25 years after the fact. And I could see, definitely, me playing Madame Morrible at that point. But I hope they really do it soon, so that I'm young enough to play Galinda.'

She speaks the truth! :P
Yeah, I'm one to think that they'd drag it out (and I'd love Chenoweth in it, I don't care what she's playing or how old she is. She's just...awesome.xD) [And I'd rather her talent on screen than say...Nicole godawful-and-nothing-but-a-pretty-face Kidman.]
But I do have to wonder about the whole musicals-to-movie idea being done so soon though. Universal has brought rights to In the Height as well, and that is just ridiculously too soon in my opinion. I agree that movies of musicals need to wait for a long while so that the show can still have some attention.
I'm afraid that people will just get more lazy and watch the movies and think it can substitute for watching a live performance. Then the world will come to an end.
Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, but...yeah, something like that.
well I think for In The Heights, that by the time an actual movie came out, it would either be gone from broadway, or close to its broadway run... so the movie would boost it...
and for wicked, i have a feeling it will be like phantom and wait fifteen more years... UGH!
I am happy for In The Heights because if they use the original cast now it won't end up like Rent. With the economy in say 2 or 3 years when the movie is aimed to come out the sales might be down. I am not a fan of movie musicals (Usually). ITH is my favorite Broadway show and they better not screw it up!
I agree. It would be in Universal's best interests to let the show run for awhile longer before releasing the movie.

Wicked is on IMDB for a 2011 release.
and IMDB only speaks the truth.
Yes, but ANYONE can submit an update on the release date (and many other things) to IMDB. So, I have learned to take anything I read there with a grain of salt.
And it just goes to show you, I just checked IMDB and it said Wicked would be released in 2010.
On IMDB it says July 16th 2010
By the time the ITH movie comes out the show will have been running for 3-4 years. At least we hope it will in this economy.

"and IMDB only speaks the truth."
and internet sarcasm is the best =)
(And I kinda agree with the ITH needing the movie. Well, I still think the show needs attention but yeah, they may be able to feed off of each other and work out.)
Anyway, for Wicked: I'm torn between really wanting to see Chenoweth!Glinda (I mean, hoping that she'd play it), and waiting for a while so that the show can continue as it is.
Although Wicked doesn't NEED a movie to make it "popular" really - nearly everyone has heard of it, even if they haven't seen it. :/
(EDIT: I meant like...non-theater lovers and such. xD)

"But I hope they really do it soon, so that I'm young enough to play Galinda."
Ha . . . ha?
Since she is 4 foot nothing and still could pass for much younger,
I hope they cast her, I have seen many Galindas and No one comes near her.
But does she want to lose another Award (Oscar) to the discovery who gets the beter part: Elphaba.
(SJB)?
And will the PC crowd be pissed if they don't cast an authentic Green Actress in the Role?
Zac Efron as Fyero, of course.
Robin Williams as the Wizard.
Miranda Richardson as Morrible.
Ian McKellin as the Goat.
Emile Hirsh as Boc.
Susan Sarandon's daughter Eva as Nessa.
If they think they can make tons of $ and keep the BWay open, (which shouldn't be hard) Go for it, Mama Mia survived mixed to negitive reviews to be a MONEY maker.
If they sharpen the focus on Elphaba they could possibly justify putting Chenoweth in the Supporting category.
and She would LOVE that, not.
In a Big Budget Movie,
Both Actresses would deserve Lead focus.
They are Great parts.
I would love to see what Zooey Deschanel could do with the role of Elphaba.
Wasn't JHud supporting actress despite being pretty much the lead in Dreamgirls?
Yes she was.
I was just suggesting it because Elphaba is, as you put it, the "better" role and would be more of shoe-in for someone to win Leading Actress with.
Well Glinda was originally written as a supporting role.
Yep. It was all Chenoweth's fault it grew in the first place!

She's delusional if she thinks they'd cast her as Galinda. Sorry, Cheno. I love you, but no.
