I'd much rather see Cheno in a potential Pushing Daisies movie:

They better get this movie going soon. The Wizard MUST be played by Dick Van Dyke in my eyes! He would be spectacular!!!
I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss someone because of being slightly too old. Look at the opening sequence of the third X-Men movie, both Ian & Patrick were de-aged 20 years with a new special effect called "rejuvenation"
It could also be applied to two older actresses for the first part of Wicked for close up shots. Once this effect really gets off the ground, I am sure we will be seeing aging stars start demanding it in their contracts.
Well, that was 2006 and it looked creepy as hell! Hopefully the technology has gotten better in the last 3 years.
Y'know I completely forgot about X3 using that technology. And although it is a bit jarring to see Sir Ian in those two (it's like some creepy before and after Makeover shtick), that actually is a good idea to try for something like Wicked.

I would love if they got two new faces as Elphaba and Glinda. Then they could just cast big names in other roles. Someone mentioned Dick Van Dyke as the Wizard, that would get people to see it. Not to mention the show itself turning into a movie will get tons of people.
Thanks for all the humor provided in this thread. The thought of a major studio investing big bucks in a musical with Cheno in the lead is hysterical. And while Dick Van Dyke might be a good choice to play the wizard, the thought of him as a box office draw is pretty funny, too.
Maybe Chenoweth will have a "new face" by the time the movie comes to be.
Reese Witherspoon? What would people think of her as Glinda?
Not sure how old she is, but she probably could get away with it. Way more so than Cheno, plus she's a huge box office pull AND can sing.
Ok, just checked, Reese is a few years younger than Idina...so that pairing could work.
Please, accept the fact that neither Menzel nor Cheno will be involved in any film version of Wicked.
Agreed. While both of their performances were great, they are just TOO OLD for the roles now.
Well, Chicago WAS going to be made with Fosse as a director in 1987 (12 years after the show opened- Mind you, My Fair Lady was made 8 years after the show opened, Oklahoma was made 12 years after, Carousel was made 11 years after and Sound of Music was made 6 years after) but died before a production meeting could be held with Kander, Ebb and Marty Richards. No one knew how he would make it. No one knew another way to make it. It was dropped for some time until Richards decided to try again.
So, Ms. Chenoweth is slightly mistaken there.
Someone mentioned Dick Van Dyke as the Wizard, that would get people to see it.
It will?
What Chenoweth is forgetting is that musicals only recently became popular again. That's partly why it took so long for certain ones to get made.
By the time they make a movie ( a year or two at least) Chenowith will have the lead in Dr Ruth Westhiemer, The Musical .

I saw Four Christmases tonight and I have to say Kristin came across very young looking, it made me re-think her playing Glinda in the movie.

I have to be honest, as beautiful and lovely as Idina Menzel is, she just doesn't photograph well on film. Take "Enchanted" for example. Even though she was great as Nancy Tremaine, she just looked awkward on film. I even remember people saying "that chick who played Nancy was ugly" or "I think Nancy looked better when she became a cartoon." And mind you, these are people who had never heard of her or even knew what "Wicked" was. These people make up the general movie-going public.
Then again, if she were to play Elphaba on screen, she would be in green make-up, so that might help a little?
Ok "'old' police"......
We're talking about roles they played FIVE YEARS AGO. That's hardly a lifetime ago.
I'd rather have 2 amazing actresses in the roles (who are up there in age) than some of the box office draw names (some of whom would all out SUCK) being tossed around on this board!
I dislike Chenoweth completely. She is very stuck-up and thinks only of herself. And it shows.
They should just make Idina play Elphaba's mother, I dare say Elphaba's early years will play a bigger part in the movie than on the stage. It's a nod to the fans and gives her a little time to shine on screen.
Kristen could be a citizen of the Emerald City who gets a wee bit more screen time than the rest haha.
If they were making it now, Amy Adams would be the likely candidate. But they are not, so speculation is probably a waste of time. Universal will suck the material dry before a film, and by the time it comes 'round, half the score will be dropped. That much is clear -- it's just not all that cinematic. If they are smart, they will find more of the novel to put on screen, and curb the silliness. (And remember, Universal originally bought it as a non-musical property -- Demi Moore was attached as Elphaba, I believe.)

Five years on the face - especially after 30 - can be pretty drastic. Look at Sarah Jessica Parker on season one of Sex and the City contrasted with what she looked like in season five.

Ok, so Zooey Deschanel as Elphaba, and Resse Witherspoon as Glinda -- two of the greatest singing actresses of their time.
Yikes.
Galinda is a lyric soprano role, and Elphaba is a once-in-a-lifetime broadway belter role -- and to hear names like Nicole Kidman and the like being proposed just turns my stomach.
Don't encourage those dopey film producers by saying, oh I'd love to see Julia Roberts play Glinda!!!

People were saying Idina looked too old to be mid to late twenties in RENT three years ago and we're talking at least another two or three before we see a movie of Wicked. There is no way she woud pass as an early-twenties college student. No way. She is, of course, very talented, but realistically it just wouldn't make sense.
Now, Kristin does come off younger than she is on film. As someone mentioned, she looked great in Four Christmases. But I would think she could at the most scrape up a 28 year old look on film right now, add three years and you can forget about her playing a fresh faced, spoiled little college girl. Again, as with Idina, Kristin is immensley talented but i really cannot see her playin Galinda in the film.
By the time they go on with this movie it'll be Dakota Fanning and Abigail Breslin. :] lol
