Posted: 7/22/09 at 9:26pmLibby - the mezzanine at the St. James has excellent views. The balcony is, indeed, very high up. I recommend the mezz.

Posted: 7/22/09 at 9:32pmNo prob. Just to clarify further - the front mezz at the St. James is preferable to many ofthe orchestra seats.

I think Cheyenne is the Man for the job.
There was major talk that this revival might not have had their money in place, so he may have been keeping his options open.
I think his voice and prescence are a good match for the role.
I can't wait to see his Woody.

Posted: 7/22/09 at 10:35pmJackson coasts by on his looks. As for him carrying a show...he has yet to originate a role in a hit.

It stil shocks me that producers shelled out money to bring this to Broadway, yet the brilliance of the Encores FOLLIES did not transfer.
I have a feeling FINIAN'S will mark Cheyenne's third consecutive Broadway flop musical.

In the issue of fairness, many, many actors originate roles in plays/musicals that are not hits.
Case in point.....Norbert Leo Butz. Here he won The Tony Award for "Dirty Rotten," yet the show was not a financial success. Look at Angela Lansbury in "Dear World." She won her 2nd Tony Award, and it was a flop. Does that make these actors less talented, because the show wasn't in the black when all was said and done? Of course not!
Just because Cheyenne hasn't been in a "hit," doesn't mean squat. Why is there this constant need to belittle & demean him, and other actors?
Gee......jealous?

Cheyenne Jackson is coasting solely on his looks? GMAFB.
The man is not only a technically gifted singer but he also has a lovely tone to his voice. There are many technically proficient singers both on Broadway and in classical settings but their voices are not naturally beautiful. Mr. Jackson is of the former.
Going back to ridiculous comparison of Mr. Jackson with Nick Adams, whom I saw in that second-rate revival of GUYS AND DOLLS and yet manages to appear on After Elton and these other gay rags mostly in the buff -- now I would say that that gentleman is a prime example of someone who is coasting on his looks more so than Mr. Jackson.
I've followed Mr. Jackson's career since the workshop of ALTAR BOYZ in 2004 and he has more than proven his mettle over the years as a singer, stage actor, and now, a cabaret performer.

Posted: 7/23/09 at 1:01amCheyenne is certainly great to look at, but I also think his voice is really great. I saw him in Damn Yankees at CityCenter and Xanadu, and I think is vocals are amazing. The optional little High D he does at the end of "dont walk away" in Xanadu is pretty hot, may be Headvoice mixed falsetto, but still really impressive in my opinion <3

Posted: 7/23/09 at 4:26amI'm not criticizing him- I think he's a lovely boy and a fine performer. But the fact is, the presence of Cheyenne Jackson will not make a show a hit.

It won't make it a flop, either.

I think you mean the latter.

With or without Cheyenne, I think it will flop. I think finding a sizable audience to fill the St. James will be hard to find.
And I expect it to be done on such a shoestring budget that will make GYPSY look like a Ben Ali Haggin tableau.
But I love the show and would be delighted to be proven wrong.

BobbyBubby - You have been saying the same thing for years now. Admit it, there certain performers you hate so you trash them on this board non-stop (e.g. Shoshana Bean, Cheyenne Jackson, etc.) But, your vitriol for Jackson is bordering on obsession, or a personal grudge. Yet for all your trash talking, they still are still working and you are not.
According to you , he can't act, can't sing, has no personality, looks like a gay bar-back, and has no talent. Yet he still keeps getting hired, and is one of the most in demand performers.
You claim, the only reason producers ever hire Jackson is because he is good looking? So, producers are going risk millions $ on someone with no skills whatsoever just because they are good looking? Nice try!
You can like him or not, I don't care. But, enough of all the juvenile attacks on people, its wearing a little thin.

I'm thrilled that Cheyenne Jackson will be joining the Broadway revival of Finian's Rainbow, he was charming and added immeasurably to a wonderful cast of the Encores! presentation at City Center. Whatever problems there may have been have thankfully been worked out, and those of us who appreciate Mr. Jackson's talent, charisma and beauty as well as his rather candid interviews, are very happy that he is returning to Broadway.
Cheyennetologists, rejoice! We rejoice with abandon!
BTW, there is something screwy about logging onto this board, it always takes me a couple of times to get on.
