Chicago Announces 2010-2011 season, Rock of Ages, 9 to 5, God of Carnage

I wonder if Rock of Ages will be at the Water Tower location. It's the perfect venue for that show. I'll be happy to see God of Carnage and 9 to 5. Not thrilled about the other stuff, though. Traces looks like Cirque du Soleil in STOMP costumes performed on the De La Guard set and the addition of another Cirque Dreams sounds like too much of that sort of thing. Jakie Mason? No, thanks. Burn the Floor? No, thanks. Avenue Q? Seen it twice, the last time was the Equity tour. I'll wait to see what is included in the season ticket package, but I might have to drop my renewal this time.

Rock of Ages will be at the BOAT. I'm SO pissed that the rumored ROA sit down at Drury Lane isn't happening. But where the hell is HAIR, Next to Normal, West Side Story? I'm kinda upset.

But in 2010, Chicago kicked off three tours. Pretty impressive.
Billy Elliot, Shrek, and Rock of Ages. Very nice!

I'm excited for "9 to 5" and "God of Carnage" (saw both in New York last year), but I don't really care about the others. I wanted Hair, N2N, and WSS as well.

Didn't the Drury Lane Water Tower shut down? Or was that just a rumor I heard?

I'm sure we'll get Hair, West Side Story and Next to Normal later. Broadway in Chicago splits their season in two parts. The second half of this season just started with August: Osage County, which overlapped with the last show of the first half of the season, 101 Dalmatians. What they're going to release and when is anyone's guess. The Broadway in Chicago schedule is always adding/changing their season ticket shows and specials. They also previously announced STOMP, Fuerza Bruta, The Lion King and Wicked.

Jackie Mason? If he couldn't sell in Skokie he sure ain't gonna sell downtown.

What in the world is BIC going to put at the Drury Lane if not ROA? I would have loved to see that at the Vic but I despair of ever seeing that become a legit house again. Could they possibly be thinking of a Hair sit down at Drury Lane? The original Hair tour ran for YEARS in Chicago- and Michael Butler produced a 30th anniversary production here. Anyone hear any rumors?

I heard from people who work at BIC that Billy should be there for at least 11 months.

I think Hair in Drury Lane would be a great idea since it's so interactive. It'd be a great theater for it. I think it would be hard to be that interactive like it is in New York in any of the other theaters because they're so large. Unless the cast is double it's size, I don't see them going into the upper levels the way they do in NYC.

Good riddance. I mean I'm happy for anything that makes BIC money I suppose, because more paying customers is always a good thing, but I have absolutely no desire to see Billy Elliot so, imo, the sooner other shows can use that house, the better.

I had no desire to see Billy Elliot, either. But my partner wanted to take me to see it in London. I'm glad I went. It's one of the best musicals I've ever seen in London. Not at all what I expected having only listened to the CD.

I have heard tell that the Hair producers are looking into doing sit down productions of Hair. The cities Chicago and San Francisco were mentioned.

Hair couldn't fit into Water Tower... unless they drastically reduced the size of the set. The stage is simply not big enough... The Bank Of America would be perfect!

^ sort of. They *could* reduce it, but the effect of the large set is really cool. There's a backdrop of the sun that's on many of the posters/windowcards, and oriental-looking rugs cover the stage.

Also, the Drury Lane is pretty small. It's not a storefront or anything like that but it is smaller (I think, not that I have that much experience or anything!) than most if not all Broadway houses as far as I know.

No, it's a multi-level set. If they took out the second level of the set then they might be able to fit it. But, the stage at Water Tower is a lot less wide, and the proscenium is a LOT lower.

i worked at the chicago company of Hair in 1970 at the Bank of America (shubert then ) for a long time , i think 8 months, but the company was there longer. it would be great great great at the Vic. Ohterwise, think the current season kind of sucks. I saw a revival of Hair at the Vic in the 80's or 90's (don't ask) that was great and the setting was great.

I'm pissed about all the "theatrical events" crap we have. I don't care about cirque, or stupid "look up" show, or stomp, or any of that crap. Why don't we have Next To Normal, or West Side Story, or HELL even Little Mermaid coming in?!?! and Jackie Mason!?!? WTF!!

sorry, I'll calm down...eventually.
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...

Guys, remember Broadway in Chicago breaks up there season in two. And it should probably be announced sometime in September. Don't worry. I have no doubt we'll get West Side Story, HAIR, and Next to Normal next season. Just wait till other shows announce there full line up, and look and see what other Nederlander cities put on.

I hope you get NExt to Normal, then you will see you should have never wished for such a nightmare!
