The Chicago Tribune, after being swamped with corrections apparently, has corrected and re-listed the longest running "Broadway" shows in Chicago. It's an illuminating list.

16 months — "Show Boat" at Auditorium Theatre, 1996-97
15 months — "Godspell" at Studebaker Theatre, 1972-73
15 months — "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," Drury Lane Water Tower, from 2006
14 months — "Cats" at Shubert Theatre, 1985-86
13 months — "The Music Man" Shubert Theatre 1959-60

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."

I would like to see Chicago's list of longest running non-Braodway shows, which is even more impressive. I know Hellcab, Late Night Catechism, Tony and Tina, Blue Man Group, Forever Plaid, I Love You You're Perfect..., Naked Boys Singing and now possibly Awesome 80s Prom might be included. Anything else?

JRybka - Currently, I think the longest running Chicago show is either Late Night Catechism or Blue Man Group.

Shear Madness plays downstairs at the Chicago Theatre but I don't know how long it's been running.

That's a new production of SHEAR MADNESS. The original, at the "Mayfair Theatre" (a converted ballroom at the Blackstone Hotel) ran about 15 years, from the mid-1980's to around 2000. It closed because the hotel was shut down and the building condemned.
