Tom - to whom or what do you "LOL" out of curiosity?
If it's about In My Life, I am laughing a little as well. I am sort kind of maybe thinking that if I had seen In My Life, I would have gone away at least a little impressed at the baby-belter.

Posted: 7/24/06 at 6:42pmI didn't see anyone mention Liana Ortiz, who played the young Chita in Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life, nor of Allison Fischer, who was Claudia in Lestat.

Posted: 7/24/06 at 6:44pmSpeaking of child actors, does anyone know what happened to the Gavroche from the Les Miserables OBC? I'd really like to know.
re: Child actors on Broadway#55
Posted: 7/24/06 at 7:13pmBroadway Local - Allison really wasn't that young though. She played young (eternally young), but she was, if I remember correctly, something around 17.

Posted: 7/24/06 at 7:31pmAllison was 17, but the Claudia standby, Amy Sparrow, was only 12.

Didn't Titanic use a baby doll whe the boy wasn't available? I thought I'd heard that somewhere.
Also, in shows with double/triple-cast child roles, how do they decide which one gets the honor of being recorded on the cast album? Is it whichever one goes on opening night?

FOTR revival stopped casting teenagers as Shprintze and Bielke in June 2005 after the last one, Betsy Hogg left. Earlier that year it was Allison Walla (adult) and Betsy Hogg (teenager). Hogg left in June '05 and was replaced by Hannah DelMonte.
EDIT: Hannah's name added thanks to Jeff2.

Posted: 7/24/06 at 9:42pmBut how do they determine which one does opening night? Is it the "best" one? Wouldn't that upset the other kids?

Captain Louie which was recently off broadway had kids in it. When it tours they are looking for people 18+ to play kids. Spring Awakening which is currently off-broadway but making a Broadway transfer has teenagers. If Princesses comes to Broadway it has teenagers in it.
What Are the restrictions when you are seventeen? How do they change when you turn 18?

It's late and also a long thread. I hope These weren't mentioned previously:
"Color Purple"
"Hot Feet"
"Grey Gardens"
"Woman in White": The "Corn Dolly Girl" was an adult cast as child on Broadway, but on the West End was played by 10 to 13 year olds.

They decide who does opening night/the OBC/etc. the same way
they decide the schedule...they choose whoever they consider the strongest performer. It might upset the kids who aren't chosen, but that's the way it goes.
To be fair, though, a lot, if not most, of the productions seem make an effort to include all the child actors in special events/performances/OBC recordings. In "The Secret Garden" the Mary and Colin alternates always performed in the show, and sang on the OBC, as members of the ensemble. IIRC the Colin alternate also did one song on the OBC. And I remember at the special anniversary/closing shows at Les Miserables they always had all five of the kids come out for the finale/curtain call.

My little cousin was in La Boheme on Broadway about 3-4 years ago :)
I was so upset that they didn't let them bow at curtain call!!! But I had taken off and seen the show before anyone else in my family, by myself, and called my mom crying when I saw his name on the board in the lobby.

Posted: 7/30/06 at 1:57pmTo answer green-eyed's question, they do come out and sign autographs. They did it when I saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Posted: 7/30/06 at 3:45pmAnd I have Young Cosette, Young Eponine, and both of the Gavroches' autographs from the Les Mis tour. They came out with their mothers and I think they were going to lunch. They were very excited about wherever they were going =)
