Has anyone won or been nominated for a TONY?
Daisy Eagan won for "The Secret Garden" (and gosh, her speech was sweet)!
Also Lil Inez is only played by one girl all 8 shows. As said before the current lil Inez is 10.
Could maybe it also haveto do with the amount of time they are actually on stage? Just wondering, because I also know when Gypsy was open there where for 3 news boys and baby Louise where that where all only covered by the one girl what played the Balloon girl. Then there was a little girl to u/s baby June.. whom I believe also went on for all the show a week.

My little cousin was in La Boheme on Broadway two years ago.
Yeah, not on topic, but it was so exciting...even though he didn't get his name in the Playbill and the kids didn't get to bow! I still remember seeing his name on the castboard in the lobby of the Broadway Theatre and calling my mom crying.
Frankie Michaels won a Tony for his performance as Young Patrick in Mame. I think he is STILL the youngest Tony Award winner (just slightly edging out Daisy Eagan).
Ralph Carter was nominated for RAISIN. He lost to Tommy Tune for SEESAW.

I did see the original production of MAME, with Angela Lansbury, so it must have been Frankie Michaels whose performance as young Patrick that I had seen -- a long, long time ago

William Ullrich, who started out as one of the kids in the OKLAHOMA revival, then played Young Guido in NINE, is supposed to be terrific as Young Bobby Darrin in the Kevin Spacey film BEYOND THE SEA.

The girl who plays Little Inez in Broadway, how is se allowed to do shows very show day with Child days. Also, how is she concidered cast if she is only in for a few scenes?
Broadway Legend Joined: 9/29/04
She is considered "cast" because she is actually on stage, acting, singing and dancing. You and I AREN'T considered "cast" because we're not on stage. See the difference? LOL I'm just playing with ya... but it's pretty obvious why she is part of the cast... because she's actually in the show! She has actual lines, an actual solo, and she has a complete character.
As to your question how she can do all eight shows a week, I don't know. I think the laws are about how many HOURS a child can work, and she's only on stage a maximum of three hours a night (except for double show days).

A Christmas Carol! It was a good Broadway show to employ professional kids!

There are no requirements as far as splitting roles. It's so that the kids don't get as drained and can perform up to expectations. That's why you see it more with younger kids.
I'm on a Full Monty kick. The part of Jerry's son is played by a kid (12 years old). It was played by two boys alternating on Broadway.

Michael Phelan (and then William Ulrich after he took over) as Winthrop in the 2000 revival of The Music Man did not have an alternate. It really depends on the show, I think, and how the contracts are worked out. And funds, too.

Unfortunately, the producers of Hairspray have decided to be even CHEAPER than usual and they've stopped casting children in the role of Lil' Inez. The character is just played by a smaller adult and is referred to as just Inez.
I find this to be a big disappointment; it was always a thrill to see a little girl on the stage and then hear an enormous voice come from her. Now, it's just another adult actress who can sing.

Tommy (Tommy aged 4 and 7--has been played by boys and girls)
Fiddler on the Roof
Boy from Oz (Young Peter)
High Society (Dinah)

*Not* a show with kids, but I think I remember hearing that Cynthia Onrubia did A Chorus Line on Broadway when she was only 15 or so.
For Tony nominations, Anna Kendrick from High Society was nominated for Best Featured Actress.
I am ALL about Henry Hodges. This is really quite sad because he is about, what, 13 and I'll be 21 in February. =( There might be something wrong with that.... I used to be terrified by the Mary Poppins movie for some reason as a little kid, so I was elated about Mary Poppins only after I heard about him being cast in the show! =P
I thought Chloe Smith was fantastic in Hairspray as Little Inez... now the girl from 3LW is in it?!?! Joshua488- I agree, bring back the kids.

I hate to pollute this thread but...In My Life has a child actress or rather had a child actress. Her name is Chiara Navarra and she apparently belts like a twelve year old Eden Espinosa. She played the leading man's dead sister. I did not see the show but for some nutty reason, I was hoping she would get the show's only Tony nomination. What the heck was I smoking thinking that?
Do children usually come through the stagedoor and sign things?
