Hit. Its got name recognition, and a great cast. Plus, I hear its a pretty good show, too (but, as some shows have shown, thats not a requirement to have a successful show)

I sure hope it is; we need to see Raúl in a show that outlasts his time with it... a show that doesn't close, even given his knock-out performance. 
Anyway, I think it's going to be really family friendly, and they have some wonderful people in the cast... so, hopefully a hit.

Hit. My guess is it's the next Lion King... Every family that goes to New York will have to take their kids. And adults will enjoy it, too. I saw it in London and really enjoyed it. Some of the new songs are great and really work well with the classic soundtrack numbers. ...And Raul. I have Michael Ball version of the cast recording, but Raul will be amazing. I forsee a Tony nod. Then again, who else is there?

You know, I was thinking about the Tonys today... because Raúl needs a Tony, period. I'm not sure who will be counted as lead, versus who as featured...
But... figure:
One, maybe two from La Cage... two, maybe three from Spamalot (Pierce, Azaria and Curry?), Norbert and John Lithgow from DRS, Raúl.... that's more than the usual five.

The Chitty box office has not opened yet but the word is Chitty has a record advance just from Amex and web sales. With all the talk about Spamalot and Dirty Rotten Scound., I am willing to bet Chitty will outlast them all. I have a feeling it will follow along the lines of Beauty & Beast which lost the Tony Award to a flop called Passion. Chitty might not win the most awards or unanimous rave reviews but I am certain it will be the long term big ticket seller.

I don't think all three of those guys from Spamalot will be nominated. It's more of an ensemble piece and I can only imagine one or two at the most getting a nom in Leading Actor. If Raul does well in Chitty, as he probably will, this could be a godd year for him.

He'll probably get a nomination; critics adore him. As much as I want to see it happen and as much as he deserves for it to happen, I don't think he'll win if he gets the nod... he'll probably get screwed over by a bigger name.

My bet is Tim Curry getting the Tony, because of his name. I do hope Raul gets at least a nomination.
Oh, and I hope Chitty gets nominated for Best Musical, and they perform one of Raul's songs at the awards

Well if Tim Curry is only mediocre in Spamalot I wouldn't bet on him winning. People use the whole "name recognition" a lot with the Tonys. I don't think it's used as often as people say it is. This is a year where it could easily go to on of the men in Scoundrels, or one of the two men in La Cage, or Raul in Chitty. I don't see a frontrunner right now.

Hey now! That was just The Normal Heart. And Taboo. And the Rocky Horror Show I believe. There was always tick, tick . . . BOOM! which lasted to see one replacement Jonathan and THEN closed.

I saw it in London with Michael Ball and really enjoyed myself ( came out of the theatre with the biggest grin on my face, humming "bang, bang, chitty chitty bang bang ").
I have tickets to see the Broadway production in May.
The audience will not just be kids and their parents ...but also those who grew up with the movie ( my niece, now a working professional in NYC, has also gotten tickets for herself and her husband - after all, she still knows all the songs by heart from childhood). It will also be an attraction for many tourists who are familiar with the movie.
Btw, there is a Region 2 DVD of the Making of CHITTY based on the production at the Palladium in London. It has five full production numbers from the show.

Hit, Im so excited about this and to see Raul up on stage again.

I thought the London production was pretty good and I had a good time. I can't imagine it getting good reviews - there were definitely some questionable aspects about it, but it will probably be a financial success.

Have a feeling it'll be an audience hit, not necessarily a hit with the critics (I'm betting on mixed to positive reviews). I'm seeing it April 16th and hoping for another great Raul performance. But I still think NL Butz will get the Tony, just can't imagine a performance better than his this year. After I see Spamalot on the 19th I might change that opinion based on Curry's performance
