Wait til you see the show, then decide.

I have it... it's alright, I guess. I wanted SOME recording of the music, as the songs are stuck in my head all the time, but the London cast isn't nearly as vocally diverse and talented as the Broadway cast, with the exception of Michael Ball. He's quite good.

I know! I've never heard Raul sing and I'm so excited for the show to be able to see him and meet him. He seems like a really nice guy.

*not-so-quiet grumble* I wish the were, Bobby. re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

He's very, very sweet, but good luck meeting him. heh. He's been a little... elusive lately.

I wish he'd do a solo album.

Yeah, Chitty's all about the car. No cast recording sadly.

A solo album of showtunes. Oh, what a loverly thought.

I really wish the Broadway cast would get recorded because of the changes in music from the OLC and the amazing, diverse cast on Broadway. The London recording is better than nothing and enjoyable at least. I agree, Michael Ball is the best part of the cd.

Or even rock music or whatever he wants to sing. I'd listen to him sing the phonebook.

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

Phonebook works, too. Definitely works.

Have you ever heard him sing "O Tannenbaum?" It's got some Spanish ad-libbing (and a B flat!). Ridiculous. People look at me funny when they see a Jewish girl playing a Christmas song in July.

WickedGeek-- I'm seeing it on Saturday, too!!

It really is a shame that the OBC won't be recorded. They are just SO incredible. And to have a recording of Raul singing Chitty would just be fantastic.

Chitty is more of a product than anything. Have 2 recordings would confuse consumers and split the profits. They are safer, in their eyes, with just one recording. Have you been in that theatre? I felt like I was at Disneyland there were so many products and gimicks.

I think I paid 5 bucks for a bag of chips, which they, ewww, told me I could eat in the theater.

Em, I think that just made my day...I'll have to find the song.

It's freaking gorgeous. I can't remember the exact name of the CD it's on, though. I think it's Broadway's Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, but I don't remember which year.

Em, indeed that would be Raúl and I! This was back when the show was in previews...

I think I saw the cd listed on his website.

I just checked his website... 'O Tannenbaum' was on the 2003 Carols for a Cure.

I love the OLC. As has been said, Michael Ball is excellent. Also excellent is Emma Williams as Truly, who made her West End debut in Chitty. Richard O'Brien originated the role of the Child Catcher in London, and I thought he was quite creepy to listen to. Brian Blessed and Nichola McAuliffe were very funny as the Baron and Baroness, and this was especially clear in the beginning of the Bombi Samba.

One favorite part of the OLC is Me Ole Bamboo -- there's a bit of ad-libbing by Michael during the song. Also a favorite is "Think Vulgar," which was replaced by "Act English" I found the play on words in the former very amusing. The title song tends to give me chills, as I remember watching the car start to fly.

It's not the Broadway cast, but it is a good cd.

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

Raúl's Me Ole Bamboo "ad-libs" are almost exactly the same as the ones on the CD, though. Could they be scripted lines?

You know, like -
"Just what I need, FOLK DANCING!!"
etc, etc.

I understand why you would want the OBC of Chitty. But I do love the London cd with Michael Ball and Emma Williams. She has a beautiful voice. And she was only 18 or maybe just 19 when they recorded that.

Yes. I am planning on the night show, I'm doing student rush.

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

Emcee, that was scripted because Michael always said the same thing at the beginning of the song. The line I hear on the cd that I never heard in the show is "Watch where you're putting that pole!" re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD
