re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

Oh my God! And how old is Michael Ball?!

ETA - gotcha, kec. I've heard him say that, though - maybe not every time, but I'm pretty sure he has. It's harder to hear him do those lines live than it is to hear Michael on the CD, though.

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

I have seen both productions, but I must say I prefer the London show with the original cast. I thought the West End production has a little more charm and was a little more magical than the version I saw on Broadway. I don't know - it must be because the London cast were excellent in portraying the Britishness of the story and the staging.

Michael Ball and Emma Williams were vocal standouts in the London cast and of course in the recording, too. Michael is considered one of the best male vocalists in musical theatre ( In September he is playing the lead role in the NYC Opera's staging of Gilbert and Sullivan's PATIENCE. He was also the original Marius in Les Miserables and you can hear him in the 3 most oustanding recordings of the show, as well as the role of Alex in Aspects of Love and the role of Giorgio in the London transfer of Sondheim's Passion). Emma has a wonderful soprano and she is very beautiful. You should have heard them sing in the concert version of SUNSET BOULEVARD ( especially the duet TOO MUCH IN LOVE TO CARE).

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

I saw it saturday night and only had erin understudied and was blown away by the collective talent, however marc, jan, and raul stole the show for me. i loved every one of their songs and wish they all got recorded. and raul is as nice offstage as he seems onstage. he is talkative too and hopefully will be again when me and wickedgeek see the show together again on saturday night

You got very, very lucky after the show.

I like the OLC but very much wish that they would make a OBC, I think voice-wise, over all, I like Broadway better.
On a side note: Raul is so nice at the stage door, he came out once when I saw it, I was so happy!

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

Inside sources (friends who are in Chitty) tell me that they are scheduled to record the show in two weeks. Of course this is what they told me that everyone in the cast is saying, but that no one has told them officially.

See, and I just heard "no" from a pretty official grapevine. I don't know what to believe anymore, but I'll keep hoping they get one.

If they are recording it does that necessarily mean it would be released? I hope they do!

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

Oh gee, what a surprise, everyone thinks Broadway is better than London's West End. That is like the overwhelming jingoistic vibe of this board and it riles me.

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

Yep, sure. We all like it better just because we're elitist Americans. That's right. It's not about casting, or orchestrations. Just because we're Americans.

If it were a different musical, perhaps the answer would be different.

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

Everyone didn't say they liked Broadway better. There are people that said they liked the West End production better. I think if I saw the Broadway production I'd like the West End better (because I like Michael Ball). I'm happy with the OLC. re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD I think those that said they like the Broadway production better is because they are either Raul fans, fans of someone else in the cast, or that's the one they saw rather than just heard. People tend to prefer what they know, and since this is a Broadway board, most people here would have seen the Broadway version and not the London version (though I know there are those that have seen both).

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

If you would like, I can ask some of the cast saturday night about planned cast recordings and if anyone would know, they would. I'm not afraid to ask raul or anyone. then when i find out, I'll report it back here to you guys

They'll probably tell you the same roundabout "I don't know" they've been giving for months, but please do give it a shot. re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

saw chitty last week... and i had high hopes... and was let down greatly. i didnt like it that much so i would not spend 25 bucks on a recording (and im sorry but IMO the singing wasnt all that great...and the words were damn near impossibleto hear with the accents!!!)

and raul came out the door, stuck his hand in front of his face and walked passed everyone when i went. Im not complaining that he didnt sign, but he could have at least left without the attitude (or just used a diff door if he was in a bad mood).

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

He hasn't been at all lately, but rather been going out another way - the attitude reared its head back in Taboo, I heard. But daaaamn; harsh, boy.

how sad to hear about his newfound attitude. I remember when i met him at a preview of rocky horror (which was his b'way debut which could explain alot) he was amazingly nice

eh, it's not really new. Seems to come and go - but everybody gets into bad moods. He's not quite the overly arrogant type.

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

That is really sad that he was a bit rude. I'm sure it was just a bad day.

When I met him he talked to me for a long time. He made a conversation about a pink sharpie interesting. Such a nice man. He seems like such a happy person.

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang CD

It just doesn't seem fair to call it an attitude. He's so gracious, and it's a proven fact he's one of the hardest workers on broadway. Hmm, maybe he's just tired. I also think it has to do with the size of the crowd. It's sort of traps you in a way. I can imagine it's easy to feel guilty if you walk out the stage door and only sign a couple of things while rushing to your car. The easier way just seems to be simply going out another door. Of course, the man can do no wrong in my eyes. It sucks, but as long as he's taking care of himself, it's for the best. Still wishing he would lay off the smokes...

Oooh, and the London vs. Broadway production.... Here's the thing. My best friend saw the production in London and on Broadway. She favoured the London one. But, Michael Ball has a special place in her heart. I've seen them both as well. I prefer the Broadway one. But, Raul has a special place in my heart. Honestly, I'm more partial to Truly who is on the london cast. She's such a power house singer, and a damn fine actress at that. I hate to say it, but I think Erin Dilly is a bit lacking. I also find it interesting that the kids are sot of flip flopped. On the london ocr, the boy is a stronger singer than the girl. On broadway, it's completely the opposite. Just something I noticed a while back that made me go "hmmm".

I'll shall keep my fingers crossed for and OBC recording. Raul plus "Hushabye Mountain"-heaven.
