re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Predictions

Au contraire nancipants: the man has a fabulous musical theater voice and got great reviews in London for this role. I, for one, am hoping he reprises it here.

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Predictions

I've seen the London production several times with Michael Ball and thought he handled the role of Caractacus very well. I hope he does reprise the role on Broadway.

To answer the question, I think it will do fine on Broadway. Good family show, and will very likely draw anyone who loved the film growing up.

I too saw the production in London and thought it to be delightful! A wholesome, fun, light-hearted, feel-good night at the theater...WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT!

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Predictions

He was very good in the London production. Not nearly challenging enough for him vocally (although I saw the production after the "Hush-a-bye Reprise" was added specifically for him and it was impressive). He's a natural at light comedy though and was great with the kids. I think he'd be wonderful and well received in the Broadway Production. He indicated when asked last month at his fan club event however, that although they are still "talking", he wasn't looking to commit for a full year.

not one of my favorite films, so I am ambivilent about the production -- to comment on an earlier thread -- Your a Good Man Charlie Brown is not a "take the family" type show -- sure, it has the characters we all know at age 3, but the themes are decidingly adult -- I have been cast in this show twice --- once in a legit run and another for a children's theater -- the show went right over the kids head....I got paid well for it, but it was painful and one of the hardest runs I had. Five years olds do not know what courage and tenacity and men moving mountains means....

What does this show spell?

The end of Broadway.
Ignorance is temporary. Stupidity last forever. Watch out BWW... HE'S BACK.

---(especially TEAMWORK, which has been dubbed the "Les Mis moment" of the show)---

what do you mean by 'les mis moment'???

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Predictions

NoDayButToday2, TEAMWORK is the rousing song - it's the DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SING of Chitty, which is why it has been dubbed the "Les Mis Moment".

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Predictions

My post wasn't an invitation for Mikey's Barmy Army to gush to his defense. Sheesh! Besides...NY standards are much higher than WE standards. Mikey would never "fly" on Bway.

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Predictions

Why throw the comment out there if you don't expect a response? I didn't see any "gushing" going on. It's just that some of us have seen MB in the role so feel qualified to actually comment on his performance. Nice broad general condemnation of the WE too BTW...

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Predictions

I don't think a blanket condemnation of the West End is called for. There are some shows that are great on either side of the pond. Some that are not. Different strokes so to speak. As I said before I want to see the car fly.

Marc Kudisch.....read that in Playbill.com.....and Charlotte Church (can't remember where I read or heard that) but I looked on her website and it was mentioned.

The flying car IS impressive Sharon, no matter who's driving it!

"I am really looking foward to this show. Does anyone know when it begins previews or have any cast info? "

It was mentioned on Broadway.com awhile ago, unofficially, that Mark Kudisch would be playing the Baron. A later article mentioned someone, again unofficially, to play the baroness, but I don't remember the name. Charlotte Church was a rumor. There has been no formal announcement of casting. Previews are to begin in April, I believe.

Nancipants, you stated your opinion, others have stated theirs. "Gush to his defense"? Hardly. As for your comments about West End standards... having seen shows on both sides of the Atlantic over the last few years, in my opinion the standards are just as high in London as they are in NY.

O.K. Nancipants, with which statement, precisely, did you disagree: that Mr. Ball has a terrific musical theater voice? Even his harshest critics concede that point. That he got good reviews for playing the role in London? All you need to do is look them up. Neither statement constitutes gushing.

re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Predictions

the show was a great success in london, with michael ball. i hope he'll reprise his role on broadway so his fans in the states get a chance to see him. don't see that there is any arguement about his voice ( has been called the greatest show voice of his generation.....and that wasn't a quote from one of his "army " of fans , either). he is terrific at light comedy, very charming , and disarming! i often wonder why some people seem to despise him so ! ?? no one has ever given an explanation of their dislike for him. i'd love to hear it sometime.

anyhow, i predict it will be a rousing success.

Crissy, I think professional jealousy has an awful lot to do with it.
