I was just wondering if anyone had done this recently. I am planning on trying for the Wednesday matinee and was wondering what time I should get there. TalkinBroadway says that they give out the tickets 2 hours before the show, but from your experience should I get there even earlier?
Thank you for your help.

I guess it's sort of dependent on who you end up talking to at the box office, but apparently rush tickets aren't supposed to be sold for matinees.
Anyway, no, you don't need to get there more than two hours before - you won't encounter a line. It seems like the trick might actually be to get there somewhere between an hour and thirty minutes prior to curtain.
Good luck!

Posted: 8/27/05 at 9:09pmThe tickets are just the unsold seats. I went on a Saturday evening once and was in row J in the orchestra. I bought them maybe an hour before curtain. This show never sells out, just go whenever.

I did rush for Chitty earlier this week and there was a huge line. I had to wait forever. I ended up getting a seat in row W but I moved up to front row for act two since the entire front row was empty.
I saw the show from front row again yesterday and it was empty again.

Sometimes the line isn't only for rush, though. It's one box-office line, and chances are a lot of the people are just buying regular tickets. I meant that people don't line up for Chitty rush like they do Spamalot, or something.
Front row EMPTY?! SH*T.

Yeah, that's probably what it was.
I know. I felt so bad for the cast having to perform such an upbeat show to a half empty and dead audience. And I felt really stupid being the only one in the front row. I don't like to stick out. Haha.

Posted: 8/27/05 at 10:21pmLast time I went, the audience was dead dead DEAD. I wanted to check their pulses, or something. It's a big theatre to fill... or so I tell myself. I'd like to see it from the front row at some point.

Posted: 8/27/05 at 10:27pmYou should! I love front row for any show. I'm just obsessed with watching facial expressions and little things that they do. Haha.

Last week, we arrived 10 minutes before they went on sale and there was no one in the box office at all. The man working, however, insisted we wait "off to the side" until 5:00 exactly. At exactly 5 PM, he sold us tickets. No one else entered the box office the entire time we were there. Our seats were in Row U of the orchestra- pretty good.
Incidentally, the audience (on a Tuesday night) was surprisingly upbeat from about the end of Act 1 on. I think the arrival of Jan Maxwell and Marc Kudisch perked everyone up.

Technically, they're not supposed to have them for matinees. However, based on reports here, it sounds as if that depends on whose manning the box office window that day.
It's very inconsistent.

I got a very good (two, actually) ticket for a Wed matinee rush.
It was less than 2 hrs before and the lady just said, "We don't do it for matinees, but we have extra seats"
A $25, or whatever it is, ticket is better than an empty seat.

Posted: 8/28/05 at 11:42pmI got good seats when I went. I went to a Sunday matinee. We were there 2 hours before the show and it was fine. There wasn't a line or anything.

Student. And when we went the man really scrutinized my graduate student ID. I think he thought I was trying to pull a fast one on him.

Posted: 8/29/05 at 10:10amI had absolutely no problem getting a student rush seat for yesterday (Sunday's) show, and I went early too. My seat was so fab btw, row E center. Oh yeah.
