This is really sad ! And it is a sign of how unpredictable things are on Broadway ! A family show, based on a well known movie, truly spectacular, already a hit in London and with a very talented cast! It had ALL the ingredients of a BIG hit and yet it closes so soon ! Since I never got to see the Bway production, I really wonder what went wrong !

I don't know I think it's a PERFECT show!
Norbert Leo Butz quotes about John Lithgow: "He's really clumsy. One of the joys in life is to watch a great big huge man totally wipe out backstage. It takes John about three minutes to hit the floor. It's like watching a Great Sequoia falling gracelessly."

I hate this article - even the title is disgusting.
And that man should sell newspaper instead of writing an article...

I enjoyed CHITTY a lot, I know I would have loved it if I had been a kid! Sad to see it go, although I remember someone called I think TheDeepEnd posting something a few weeks back with "inside" info about how CHITTY was doing great and wouldn't be closing anytime soon. Oh, well, so much for inside info.
MassOfMen on 5/17/07: "and lastly, I have no vested interest in LB. I have seen the show, I paid my money (a lot of money for that tix) I didn't watch it on a bootleg, yes I saw the flesh and bone of the people up there working their tails off. But do I really have to explain myself to you? are you the judge jury and executioner of Bwyworld.com message board? no. But I digress, I will leave this subject as I am bored of the rebuttals anyway, and go back to "wasting my time" with the job of building buildings. We have chat boards for architects as well, ya know."

I have to say, now that it's actually announced closing, I'm very sad. I've worked for this show since it started previews, and I love the people in this show and in the theatre, and I'll miss working there a lot. But I know where I'll be on New Years Eve now!

Oh, and I think Marc is returning in early December, though I could be wrong. He said he's coming back for the last four or so weeks, and SWIWS closes the 4th, so that sounds about right.

This is so sad! I knew it would happen, but just to know for sure...wow. But will Kudisch come back? Hmmmm...
Anyways, very sad. Chitty shall be missed.
Edit: And Raul will be missed too :)

I wish I had been wrong but we discussed this a few weeks ago. The show was simply too costly and did not attract enough full price ticket buyers. Many, including myself, suggested scaling down the show but the powers that be decided it could not be done. Beauty and The Beast did it years ago and is still running at its second theater! There is a slight chance of a US Chitty tour as the British Chitty tour has a huge advance ticket sale throughout the UK. Either way, it is sad to see more people out of work on Bway.
