re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to Play Final Performance December 31

This is the third time in a row that something I want to see closes before I see it. My experiences are thus:

August 2004: Was going to go at the beginning of Sept., and had tickets for Little Shop of Horrors. I ended up at Boy From Oz instead

June 2005: Was going to go in July, and had a ticket for La Cage aux Folles. Ended up at Light in the Piazza instead.

I'm planning on going in January, and was going to see Chitty, but I'm probably going to see Phantom or Woman in White instead.

I predicted when it opened that it would have an 8 month run just as Bombay Dreams did- Broadway doesn't go for Booze and Dope.......ey musicals. Im sure it brought some joy to families but except for the car and jan it was pretty awful.....and no more gay vampire musicals- EVER!!!!!!!

Well, c*cky balls. Definitely not a shock, but I always worry about the cast members...

Let's all send the cast, crew, musicians, staff and management our best thoughts as they wrap the show up and wish them all new jobs a.s.a.p. I always feel for the vast number of people suddenly out of work when a show closes, but as someone else on this board said, that's part of the business. I still think if they can figure out the logistics of the car this show would do incredibly well on tour. Maybe they'll scale it down and figure something out, who knows? Also, I'm sure regional theaters will figure out a way to creatively deal with the car issue when adapting the show to smaller spaces. I hope it has a long and happy life beyond Broadway.

Jo, are you there? It's me Namo.

Across two message boards beginning YEARS ago, you began the arduous process of talking up Chitty since before it even opened in the US.

Remember the threads you started: "Chitty will soar on Broadway!" "Chitty Broadway's Next Smash Hit: Will Run for YEARS AND YEARS!"

Remember?

And I said, "No it won't. It won't work here. There just isn't enough disposable income for 100 dollar a ticket kiddie shows.

But you acted like I was just a gloomy gus stick in the mud, all those months when there was no info about Chitty transferring. And then the news broke and you got all excited, going on and on about how Chitty would win Tonys and be a megahit and run FOREVER.

Well, I love to say I told you so. But, I TOLD YOU SO.

poor Chitty. Feel bad for the cast I hope to get to see this one more time before it closes.

I wish it would tour, I'm sure it would be amazing. They could def. scale the tour back, just a little, I want to see these amazing sets. What if the ticket sales pick back up around Thanksgiving, Chritmas? Would it stay open?

Not anything I didn't already expect (Erin said that it'd probably be New Years weekend), but still it's kinda crappy that it's on New Years Eve.

I'm going at least once more next weekend, and hopefully closing day.

It was fun while it lasted. And I think all of us who supported the show are okay with that. :)

Awwww. Poor Chitty. I saw it coming, but still, it's sad to have it actually happen. Hopefully I can see it one more time before it closes.

And good luck to Raul and the rest of the cast with their future projects! Here's hoping they find work soon!
