He was with the original cast. Michael Ball and Anton Rodgers are the only ones left from the March 2002 cast. That will change on July 19.

David Henry is still there to (Lord Scrumptious)
Michael Ball's last performance is the 19th July.I'm not a huge fan of Gary Wilmot but it'll be interesting to see how he or the
new Mr Potts approaches the role.

Sorry, I forgot about David Henry as Lord Scrumptious.

No need to apologise :) I'm sure there are a few ensemble cast members who stayed on to.

So who is going to replace MB?? I do not know the man they are referring to in all the other posts.

Replacing Michael Ball is Gary Wilmot, more than likely.

The Gary Wilmot thing is still offically only rumour as yet.I've also heard that as advanced ticket sales are doing well Michael's
understudy Peter Bishop was to take over the role for a few months until a name could be found for later in the year,so it's anyones guess really but I'd have thought we'd hear pretty soon one way or the other.
I think I'm right in saying Gary Wilmot started out as a comedian/impressionist in the '80s on one of out tv talent shows here in the Uk(could be mixing him up with someone else though)
He went on to be in amongst other things 'Copacabana'and 'Me and my girl'He also had a tv show for the BBC called 'Showstoppers'.
That's as much as I know I'm afraid

I think it's time to open up this thread again.
I suppose it's hopeless to expect Chitty on Broadway this coming season? I had heard rumors several months ago about it being here for Christmas 2003.
Doesn't look good, though, does it?

Michael needs to come back to Broadway. Or at least tour. He could do a PBS tour.

Well, Jon, if he won't come to Broadway to do Chitty, you and I are just going to have get "our" show back on track.
D
There was a rumor in the last few days (allegedly started by Marilyn Beck) that Chitty will be coming in 2004. No other information is available. If I find the source I'll post it.
I third the motion that Michael Ball needs to return to Broadway, or at least do a tour here.
I agree who cares if this show comes to Broadway: Insipid score, banal lyrics, two dimensional and boring characters, and two kids so sweet you root for the childcatcher.
Sorry, I have to disagree. I certainly didn't find the characters two-dimensional and boring, and I very much like the score, especially with the new songs written just for the stage production.
Ah, well, to each his own. :)

The stage production is so much better than the movie, even if the book and songs are quite faithful to the screen version ( except for the addition of several songs and deletion of one ballad) - stunning sets, great performances by most of the main original cast members, dialogue laced with book author Ian Fleming's wit, some anxious and heart-lurching moments when you see CHITTY attempt to get aloft for the first time, and a feel-good ambiance when you leave the theatre.
It is a children's theme musical but I did enjoy the show very much when I saw it at the London Palladium... as much as some other shows I have seen at the West End or Broadway.

It 'll prpbably move into the Gershwin when Wicked doesn't click. No, only joking, I hope that Wicked is a success, we need new shows. Could Bernadette Peters play the car someone suggested it somewhere on this board I recall!

I think that with the gossip in the columns, the showing nationwide of the movie on Sunday, the plan is to bring the show here in the Fall or early winter of 2004 and they are starting people talking about it now. Wish it was with Michael Ball but if not I still wish to see the show. MB could do a concert tour and that would suit me just fine. It is long over due.

I have to agree with you, Sharon. Sorry about the others that don't feel the same way.

Actually I think he should do a concert with Sarah Brightman. That would be cool.

Thank You. A concert together would be smashing. But I would love to see him do the Donmar show off-broadway. It is sensational
I really would like to see Chitty make her way across the pond -- a lovely family show with lovely music. I would also love to see Michael Ball return to Broadway and reprise his role of Caractacus. If that doesn't work for some reason, then I agree, Sharon, he needs to bring the Alone Together show to off Broadway.

Michael Ball undoubtedly would find the prospect of Chitty to Broadway most challenging!
And has already been stated in several tabloids etc., the producers of Chitty are keen for Michael to take on his role of Caractacus Potts if and when it happens!
Personally, Michael's voice which is exquisite, (and I do agree that his interpretation as Caractacus was superb)would be better showcased on tour in the States.
This is where his depth of passion lies, singing from his heart, singing and encompassing his audience.
Chitty to Broadway? Perhaps! But not with Michael Ball, his talents lie where his soul is bedded, in concert - LIVE!!
