Chitty Chitty to Broadway?

#75re: Ball and Banderas duet in new album

This track list is still unconfirmed at the moment so there could be some more additions to it yet.Michael did say in an interview earlier in the year that he would be writing some material for the album, perhaps as there is a very clear story to the album there wasn't the oppotunity to include it this time.
They are covers but I don't feel they are common songs that the general public will be sick of hearing.
Giving the album a clear storyline is different to his other solo work, even Alone Together didn't do that,it left it to the audience to decide their own story.

Michael's music is played on some radio stations but admitedly not as often as he could be,much of that is to do with the markets the stations are trying to appeal to in the first place.
I actually think looking at this track list this Cd will fit into a variety of radio programmes much better than any of the previous albums.

I'm not a Antonio Banderas fan as such, certainly not as Phantom anyway but I'm prepared to wait until I've heard the track before
writing it off completely.

Actually Ria, there is a specific theme to the CD. It's the story of a love affair told from beginning to end...looking for someone, meeting someone, falling in love, falling out of love and looking for love again. Acording to Michael, he wanted to go a similar route as his "Alone Together" show, telling a story entirely through song, but to make it a bit more commercially accessable. If you look at the track list, you can see that the songs (and the song order) is in keeping with this theme. I think it will be great, and I love the fact that the music crosses not only different musical genres, but that he chose songs from almost every decade, the 20's through today. I agree that this will also show Michael's great vocal versatility. As for the duet with Antonio...I think it's probably meant to be a fun thing and given Antonio's current high profile here in the States I don't think it will hurt Michael at all. It will introduce him to a whole new audience if Banderas' fans buy the CD.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear when I posted about the single. Kec understood that I meant it to be here in the States.

Good, bad or indifferent, Banderas is a well known name right now and I don't believe it would hurt Mr. B at all to release the song as a single. I believe I mentioned a long time ago that he should join with someone more well known here in the States to help introduce him to the fans.

I think he needs to back the single with something of his own and with a good beat to it. "I Wouldn't Know" would fit the bill. I base that on the fact that I play Mr B's music while at work all the time and I get more questions about him when that song plays than almost any other. Maybe not 100% proof that's the song to use but I would say that would at least make it a top contender.

"The Rose", "From A Distance" and "One Step Out Of Time" seem to be office favorites as well.

As always this is IMHO.

I've just come across this item from Ken Mandelbaum's column on Broadway.com --

"And let's also mention that another London success, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, still appears to be waiting for one of the larger musical houses to become available. (Fans of the film can settle for the thirty-fifth anniversary double-DVD reissue coming in November]"

Very interesting Jo... a double-dvd reissue? I've heard that the original dvd was poorly done, hopefully they'll do it right this time. Wonder what the extras will be -- possibly some info on the London production?

I just answered my own question by going to Amazon... interestingly, enough, on the list of extras is something called "Chitty The Musical SNEAK PEEK."

Hmmmmm.....

Think I'll add this to my Christmas Wish list... re: re: re: Chitty Chitty to Broadway?

"..."Chitty The Musical SNEAK PEEK." "

Hope it is being included as one of the DVD extras preparatory to bringing the stage musical across the pond to Broadway re: re: re: re: Chitty Chitty to Broadway?

Hi Lori, yes I'm aware that there is a storyline to this new album
Which is why I said it is different from previous albums that have had more genre specific ideas behind them ie The Movies,The Musicals,Centre Stage.Alone Together was different in that we were given the material but we were not told how the story would go we were left to make up our own minds about what we were seeing.I think it will be fantastic to.

So I couldn't get the kids tickets to Chitty on Broadway for Christmas this year.

Any chance that it'll make it in 2004 ?

I'd much rather see Chitty than Mary Poppins. I never liked Mary Poppins. She was a lying evil woman who made fools of those poor children.

John, according to some people who have recently purchased the new Chitty dvd (an anniversary edition), there is a flyer included that say that Chitty is flying to Broadway in 2004. No specific dates were mentioned though.

Mr. Matt -- and then of course there's Ms. Poppins' refusal to provide references.

I assume they'll cut that line when she comes to Broadway.
