re: Chitty WILL have a B'Way Cast ALBUM

I understand that it SAYS it's the Broadway cast, but that's a MISTAKE. It's the US/Canada release of the LONDON album, so that it won't be considered and import, and therefore be very expensive in the States anymore.

The NYC cast has NOT been recorded, and now that they're down at least six original members, the chances are slimmer than they used to be. If you're going to make an OBC album, you need the OBC, in its entirety.

re: Chitty WILL have a B'Way Cast ALBUM

Sadly, this happens alot, when shows from London comes to NYC. I don't think (with the exception of BY JEEVES, JOSEPH & SUNSET, the two latter actually LA Cast Recordings - and I could be wrong) we've had any Broadway Recording of Andrew Lloyd Webber's since SONG & DANCE. I know when they were bringing CHITTY to NYC, the prodction team had signed a deal with Sony to release the London Cast album, I don't know why it took so long though. You would think they would want out a domestic version when the show opened.

On a brighter note, a usually reliable source tells us that the Chitty ticket sales for Nov and Dec look great. Thank goodness, it opened with a huge advance to cover the recent bad weeks. Let's hope the box office boost helps the powers that be consider recording a Bway Cast Album.

There's a "making of" DVD that's sold at the theatre, Unmasked. I suspect that that'll be the same thing -- but if there's footage of the New York cast, I might consider getting it.

I think the reason that there's no Broadway album is because Chitty is a huge show that's meant to withstand cast changes, etc, and because of that, most people who buy the CD after they see the show aren't really going to give a damn that it's Michael Ball and not Raúl Esparza that they hear. Also, the big ensemble numbers sound pretty much the same. There are entirely new songs, but it's probably not worth it. re: Chitty WILL have a B'Way Cast ALBUM

re: Chitty WILL have a B'Way Cast ALBUM

I do hope that when Sony/BMG releases this CD here it will be correctly and clearly identified as the original LONDON cast. Sometimes (as with MAMMA MIA) they just call it the Original Cast Recording and this mis-leads buyers to think it is the original Broadway cast. (MAMMA MIA is now billed as a Decca Broadway original cast album... which implies it is the Broadway cast. No. Decca Broadway is the label name.)

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

You should all know I love the extra footage stuff on the London CD..it's not Broadway but it's still really cool.

I will actually hurt someone if this show doesn't last through March.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't make it at least to the one-year mark.

Well, why not? Same philosophy.

They're not doing well enough to write home about it, but they're not doing SO badly either. I'm just saying I'd think it strange if a show like that didn't even make it to one year. Even if it's not "good theatre," it seems weird to me -- for a huge, flashy show with a story that people know and love not to be able to make it.

Come what may.
