I know there are various schools of thought on this, but I want to open it up here.

At a professional audition, do you think it's appropriate to occasionally sing a song directly from the character you're auditioning for if it works really really well. Or, is this always a big no-no?

Unless you are ASKED to sing a song from the show, you don't.


If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

And that's what I do to play it safe. I just have also heard several casting directors say that if it's a song that you can really knock out of the park then go for it. But then again, those casting directors probably won't be at this audition...haha.
