When i think of the history of musical theater and the vast contributions given to this art form by choreographers, I was a disappointed to see the choreography award presented as a snippet after a commercial break. Wow! Brilliant choreographers ( Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, Michael Bennett, etc... ) are legends and have contributed so much. I found it insulting to see this award not embraced, but given 2nd class treatment.

The move of Best Choreography and Best Book to the commercial breaks in recent years is heartbreaking in my opinion. These are such crucial elements and should be held up as high as Best Direction, Best Score and Best Musical/Play.

Agreed. If they didn't have the in-between skits and whatever they could have time to do those awards.

I agree. The telecast celebrates these big dance numbers. But then the show’s producers are like “oh yeah no one really cares who choreographed them.” Mixed signals.
One Corden bit (the put on your best loser face but easily comes to mind) could have been cut to make time for Book and Choreography.

No. Cutting a comedy bit would not have made room for the unaired awards. CBS did not want to air all of the awards, they'd rather include comedy/music bits they think will appeal to a wider audience. Cutting one comedy bit would only have caused them to add in a different comedy/musical bit to replace it, not one of the unaired awards.

Or better yet, move the entire ceremony to PBS.

If anyone missed Sergio Trujillo's acceptance speech for winning Best Choreography, you must see it. So joyous and moving and inspirational. And it definitely belonged on the Tonycast.

Wasn't there a year where best score was during the commercial break?
