It's all over the boards -- not a seat between now and Christmas! No way. Yet when I just went to telecharge -- Friday eve, after 6 -- looking for 3 seats for a friend, and I found plenty of seats, and decent ones (especially front mezz, perfect for this show) for most weeknights starting Oct 10. I suppose a need for weekend seats would put you later, but if you can go to a weeknight or Wednesday matinee, you'll get in, and probably be happy.
I'm not pushing ACL, just trying to stop these strange wildfire rumors that might keep people from a show they're dying to see.
Exactly. Everyone keeps saying its sold out (even Riedel) but I keep looking on Telecharge and there's always tickets available. There may not be an orchestra tickets available but there are still tickets.
there are definately orchestra tickets still available. i just bought one.
Weekends arent even sold out till Christmas. They have tickets for a Sat evening in Dec.
Not for nothing - but who really cares about A Chorus Line?
Much rather wait and spend my money on Evita than that whinny-actor/actress "god I hope I get it..." melodrama...

Ooh, maybe I'll get the chance to see it when I go to NYC in December...

Um...you're kidding, right? Who really cares about A CHORUS LINE?
Well, to answer your question:
The millions of people that saw the original production and it's subsequent tours who were then inspired to keep dancing and pursuing their dreams, the millions of people whose lives this musical has touched. The theatregoers in the mid-late 1970's that needed something decent to see after the art form had been dwindling and going no where for nearly 5 years. The people on these boards that have never gotten a chance to see the original production. The people who have an actual and sincere appreciation for the absolutely brilliant, state of the art direction and choreography of the piece. Broadway gypsys who, undoubtedly, were inspired at some point or another to continue their craft. The Pulitzer Prize committe obviously felt it work their time, as did the Tony committe back in 1975. People like me who have been obsessed with this show since they first saw it. People look to go to the theatre to be moved and to revisit an old friend. The huge amount of press that this revival has generated. People whose lives truly began when they saw A CHORUS LINE at some point or another.
THOSE people care about A CHORUS LINE.
You obviously are just smarter than the rest of us low-lifes who would spend money to see this piece of crap, whiney show. Because you're absolutely right - the show is about nothing but whiney people who want a job. It has no point, it has a horrid score, it's choreography is abominable, and it's cast is just abyssmal. You're totally right. Why spend money to see something so terrible and utterly unimportant? Something that ran for 16 years MUST be crap, and I'm sure that the word of mouth that surrounded the show during it's 16 year run was equally crappy and whiney, which is why the show ran a mere 16 years, rather than say - EVITA.
You're totally right.
I shouldn't have to pay over $310.25 to get a single seat 3 months in advance to only be able to get as close as row J in the orchestra.
once again munk said it before and i will again YOU ROCK
Thanx munkustrap178 for understanding where I'm coming from...
You do not have to spend $300.
Breglio is being an ass about the ticketing. More tickets show up at the performance date nears. They are holding an unusual amount of tickets for "premium seating", which is bad for business, but just hold tight and they will become available.
And chernjam, don't sell yourself short. Go see the show.
I always thought Chicago should have won the Tony over ACL & still like it more
If we get discounted tickets, fine. If not , we will take a pass on it

are there any rush tickets available?
Not yet (they are talking about having a lotto), but they offer standing room right now.
Roxie: Again, we disagree. CHICAGO is a damn good show, and it's great that you like it more, but I just can't imagine how you do not think that A CHORUS LINE, especially in 1975, was tremendous.
its not about selling myself short...
It's about an industry loving hug-fest.
A chorus Line was a monumental musical dealing with Musical theatre and the ups and downs of the industry.
Been there, done that. Sorry - I just don't care anymore...
An industry loving hug-fest?
That doesn't even make sense.
And A CHORUS LINE isn't really about the ups and downs of musical theatre. It's message and theme transcend time and theatre. It's about the ups and downs in one's life, coming to terms with who you are and where you're going, and being a part of something special. At one point or another, everyone is on a line. If the show doesn't move you and if the brilliant choreography doesn't astound you, then I'm afraid you're a lost cause when it comes to this.
Enjoy EVITA.
I know a lot of people who liked ACL but did not love it
Any show can be loved by almost everyone but a few will not like it. I thought ACL was a very good show but happened to like Chicago more. If you feel differently, great
It is sad to see someone posting on a theatre website that doesn't care about the ups and downs of musical theatre.
For me, it could never be anything more than a pale carbon copy of the original. For those who weren't around to see the original production... go and enjoy! I'll stick with my memories of the original, especially since there isn't anything the slightest bit original about this production. You can't go home again and you can't resurrect the past. If you’re not going to at least try to be inventive and bring something new to the table... why bother?
"If you’re not going to at least try to be inventive and bring something new to the table... why bother?"
for the very reason you mentioned in the first part of your post. I AM ONE OF THOSE WHO HAD NEVER SEEN IT AT ALL AND THERE ARE MILLIONS OF OTHERS WHO HAVEN'T EITHER!
And yes, we will go...and enjoy it!
hey man, different strokes for different folks. I am forever envious of the many audience members who mention having seen the original company. Several even caught it at the Public before siginificant changes had been made. That is something I would have loved to have been able to see, but until now I'd only been able to see the piece represented in mediocre community theatre stagings. So for folks of a similar background, I hope that this revival is able to at least open their eyes to why it is such an important work and give an appreciation for Bennett's groundbreaking direction. No the show isn't always completely sold out, so don't give up on finding tickets. It should also be re-iterated that there are a few more SRO spots now available than there were in previews.

Go see a more unusual show like THE TIMES...
ACL is so 70's
I wanna see the revival of ACL because of the choreography
and the heart,
But I wanna think also
and THE TIMES ... certainly makes U think.
that might be the 1st good thing I've heard about THE TIMES..
I plan to see it but it sounds like it's going through a lot of changes right now, trying to find a good balance. It would be wonderful if it worked out well and had some success, but certain journalists seem intent on closing it early.

By "why bother?" I meant, why should I bother to go see it? If YOU choose to see it, have a ball! But just know that what you're seeing is a carbon copy... not an original. And from what I've heard, they haven't come close to capturing the magic, freshness, and excitement of the original production. How could they? It's a moment in time that will never... could never... be replicated.

This is what I said the day tickets went on sale to non-American Express Gold Card holders, Auggie. The producers made a huge, huge tactical error holding such an inordinate number of "premium" (ie, decent) seats and trying to charge $250 bucks each for them. Good luck with that, fellas. I was your fan to lose, and you lost me before I spent a single red cent on this revival. And now it just ain't gonna happen.
