Christine Ebersole as Lovett in Orlando?

I'm crossposting this between here and the Florida board, as I thought the Broadway folks might find it interesting as well.

Rumor here in Orlando recently has been that Mad Cow Theatre, in conjunction with the Orlando Symphony Orchestra was courting Christine Ebersole to play Ms. Lovett in a concert performance of "Sweeney Todd" alongside David Gaines as Sweeney at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center.

Well, looks like the rumors are true. While NOTHING is official, Ebersole's official website e-mailed a confirmation that they were "working on it" to the Orlando Arts Blog at orlandoartsblog.blogspot.com

That would be interesting. Though it really doesn't make any difference because there's no way I'm going down to Orlando for a show. If I felt like going to Disney World around the same time...eh...maybe re: Christine Ebersole as Lovett in Orlando?

Any word on when this is?
Oh please let it be when I'm home on break and make the 30 minute drive! No matter how unsure I am of her in the role, I don't pass up an opportunity to see Christine!

You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

Actually, yes, the Philharmonic has announced the dates of the show, but as said previously, Ebersole is still in talks.

Looks like March 6th and 7th 2009. So we're quite a ways off. If Ebersole falls through, I'm suggesting Victoria Clark as a replacement.

I also think Gaines is at the very least, an ODD choice. But he's got roots in Florida and recently did a theatre opening here so I think that may be part of it.

I can see her in the role. I would love to go. It sounds like it's around Spring Break next year.

Sweet! Orlando is less than two hours ago from where I live. I shall be there if Ebersole ends up playing the role.

Finally a good reason to have a home base in central Florida. I won't live there again, but I'll definitely visit. Hopefully it works out.

re: Christine Ebersole as Lovett in Orlando?

Davis Gaines is from Orlando, so it makes sense that he would be cast as SWEENEY. As much as I like the character of Sweeney Todd, Mrs.Lovett is my favorite character in the show and so I prefer a stronger Mrs.Lovett/weaker Sweeney combo rather than a weak Mrs.Lovett/strong Sweeney pairing, just my personal preference. I think Ebersole could play the role in the Lansbury mold successfully, if this pans out, I'm definitely there. And by then I'll have a car which means there ain't no stopping me from a road trip to Orlando re: Christine Ebersole as Lovett in Orlando?
