Christine Ebersole dissapointed me.

Posted: 7/6/07 at 3:26pmI've gotta say it - I saw Grey Gardens a couple of weeks ago and I was truly dissapointed. I loved the show itself and still believe she is a great fit for the part, but she was so dull and lifeless that it made me wonder if this was the same woman who won the Tony. She could barely hit any of her high notes in Act 2....has anyone else experienced this dissapointment? Was Christine just sick???

Posted: 7/6/07 at 3:32pmI have to agree. I think the whole thing was overrated, personally.

She's probably pretty tired. I'm sure she needs a vacation, so that might be the reason.
Sorry you didn't enjoy the show.

She gives it her all out there. I'm sure the irrepresible Beale ladies have done a number on her vocally and made her tired. (Remember-she does 2 performances on Wed. and Sat.)She hasn't missed a show since April. Pretty tiring work. (Plus during Tony season she was plugging away.)
And, just for the record, I do think she sounded pretty good the last time I saw the show.

I've seen Christine in the show now 11 times going back to it's Off-Broadway run. Last week a friend and I saw the Wednesday matinee and afterwards we both agreed that it was by far the weakest we'd seen her yet. She did seem very tired and in a way she just "phoned it in".
BUT
Having said that, she was still far and away better than ANY other person currently performing on Broadway which really made me appreciate her performance even more in a strange way.

Posted: 7/6/07 at 4:18pmBorn to Reign, being out for two performances isn't really enough time to rest, especially for how difficult her role is.

At least she doesn't jump around like a monkey on uppers like Laura Bell Bundy does at the Palace every night.
Ms. Ebersole is still the Queen of Broadway (for now). She's still wonderful. It's been a tiresome run. She should be a little fatigued.

Poor you! That's just too bad... maybe when people win Tony Awards you shouldn't expect much from them (SA Choreography). Let's all make threads about our feelings and maybe we will all feel better.... *sigh*.
Seriously when I saw the thread title I burst out laughing cause I had this little child voice in my head starting to wimper (sorry too much information).
jv92 I agree with everything you said especially about LBB who is a terrific actress really... just her character is a little how should I say... overexcited and fluffly all the time (not counting the time where she gets dumped(did I say too much?)). I think I should go take a nap.

What? Did that post make sense to anyone?
#16re: Christine Ebersole dissapointed me.
Posted: 7/6/07 at 5:25pmWould it be worth it to go see it before it closes?

Posted: 7/6/07 at 5:26pmI would say so. Then you can say you saw one of Broadway's legendary performances. Plus (I think) the show is great.

Posted: 7/6/07 at 5:29pmI'm sure that Christine will be devastated to know that you were not favorably disposed to her performance. She will simply have to console herself with every award known to man, every accolade in Christendom, audience adoration and critical hosannas.....

She didn't win the Lortel Award.
Just sayin'

Posted: 7/6/07 at 5:34pmI didn't particularly enjoy the show, but I definitely think it's worth seeing

Posted: 7/6/07 at 6:36pmYou know, she's a broadway actress so we all have very high standards for her but you gotta remember she's human too. I mean who here hasn't been in a show that wasn't entirely what it should be? I sure know i have. it comforts me to know that christine ebersole ISN'T perfect.
