"Who?"
That's the sound of the tourists coming in, expecting to see Tim Curry.
"Oh, he's great!"
That's the sound of theater fans, knowing what to expect.

NO thats the sound of people asking for refunds. And spamalot closing because the real reason people are going to see it is because of the people who are in it.... Not because its a good show.
You make it's closing sound bad. I wish it closed or moved so the reivval of ACL could go there.

I'm not a huge fan of A chorus line but it would be soooooooo much better than spamalot. At least I can look at ACL and respect it. Spamalot is just a bunch of Non-sense. Horribly bad Theatre.

Wouldn't it be funny if a bunch of people were to picket Spamalot because they wanted to have ACL in the shubert.
everyone with signs.....

Deserves to be there
ok that sucked but you get the point.
I have a feeling he's probably up for one of the leads for the tour.
I think he would do very well as King Arthur. I like Chuck.
I think Cuccioli would be good for one of the major roles
I think Tim Curry will be with the show for a while (I'm assuming he was contracted for a year). If Chuck is going to be doing King Arthur, it will probably be on the tour.
And yes, SPAMALOT is a complete waste of space (namely, the Shubert).

In WHAT imaginary universe is Tim Curry a draw? The only hit he was ever involved in was a flop movie that became an after-the-fact hit. For years the words "and Tim Curry" in a movie's credits was a guarantee of floparoonie status. Not that he wasn't FABULOUS in the McHale's Navy movie. (Kidding)
Who can forget the ratings smash of the remake of Family Affair a couple of seasons ago. Tim was the DEFINITIVE Mr. French, don't you agree?
Remember Namo, that Broadway's definition of a "star" is pretty questionable. Christina Applegate? I mean come on. And let's not even get into the whole David Hasselhoff thing.

The leads (Tim, David, Sara) are contracted thru Dec. 21. David told me at the stage door that he's most likey not going to resign. I'm assuming the same about Sara. Hank, who comes back the first week in December (according to Alan), will most likely be in for the same amount of time as the rest of the cast has already put in. I hope that makes sense.

You know, they said PHANTOM OF THE OPERA would never survive after Michael Crawford left.
Do you REALLY think that people are buying tickets to SPAMALOT becuase they are huge Tim Curry fans???
Broadway Legend Joined: 7/22/03
Of course they are not. The very notion is ridiculous. "Tim Curry fans." Jeezzus.
I think he should NOT do this.
He should NOT waste his talent.
Although, he may get recognition...but,....
Am I the only one who thought Spamalot was amazing?
No, Little Sally, you're not the only one.
Some people just take themselves too seriously, and just because something like Spamalot doesn't appeal to their comedic tastes, they call it horrible, and assume that all the "paupers" are only going because of the names. So Spamalot isn't up your alley, leave it at that, there's no need to go around bad-mouthing it to anyone who will listen. It is MEANT to be silly, its is MEANT to be escapist, and it is MEANT to be a good bit of fun. Excuse me, but I just assumed that Broadway was born on the premise of escapism?

chuck is better than the role, but the role is bigger than chuck (if that makes any sense). he should do it, because he is an amazing talent that more people need to be aware of. he was my 1st Javert when I was 10, and I've followed his career ever since. the only reason I sat thru DRACULA was to see him go on as Van Helsing.

I can't resist commenting on this. For those of you who are quick to judge "Spamalot" by normal musical theatre standards, you should stop and consider why the show is such a huge success. Monty Python as a comedy group, and particularly the film "The Holy Grail", was a HUGE cult classic. Monty Python in their day, was as big, or bigger than Saturday Night Live has been in the last 10 or 15 years. They were a huge cultural phenomenon. This show appeals largley to a particular generation of people, namely, the people who were around when Monty Python was big. Now, all those people are older, and make up the largest percentage of the Broadway audience. They are the ones with established careers and enough money to buy theatre tickets. This is the kind of show the public wants. And, if one can get over one's musical theatre snobbery, it isn't hard to see the value in a show like this. Even if it's not your favorite type of show. To just say "it sucks.." is really kind of shallow in my opinion. If you don't like it, fine. But at least try to recognize why it's doing so well. It's not a bad product. It appeals to a lot of people, and it takes a lot of folks on a pleasant stroll down memory lane. Plus, if your into that kind of jumor, it's hilarious. Most importantly, it's different. That's what seems to be doing well on Broadway these days. Things that are not the typical. You don't have to like the show. That's your perogotive. But recognizing the inherent value in something is a good quality to strive for. It is what it is. Obviously, there are a lot more people that think it's good, than think it sucks. They can't all be wrong.

We may not be the norm, but there *are* some of us out there. I'm not a Monty Python fan, and hadn't seen "Holy Grail" since college (and didn't like it when I *did* see it). The *only* reason I saw SPAMALOT was for Tim Curry - and I had to fly up to NYC from Florida to do it. Didn't regret it, either.
The man hasn't had the career he deserves, but he's enormously talented.
So there.
As for all the SPAMALOT-bashing, it gets old. I've addressed this in other threads. Not liking the show is one thing; dismissing it as totally without value, often in highly insulting terms, is another. Why would the show still be consistently selling out, with continued huge advances, if it were such a huge piece of garbage? Any show that sells the way that show is selling, with all the talent both onstage and behind the scenes, is not a "waste of space" (or any of the other, even nastier, adjectives being tossed around).

I would much rather pay $100 to see Chuck Wagner than Tim Curry. But, it really doesn't matter, since I would never sit through a piece of crap like SPAMALOT again.
Geez, still bitter about DRACULA or something?
In any event, I'm quite sure both SPAMALOT and Tim Curry will do very well indeed without your presence, your $100, or your attitude.
nice to see some things never change. it used to be all about WICKED, but now it seems SPAMALOT is the show that people defend with blind allegiance- refusing to accept the idea that people just might not like their show of choice.
