Posted: 4/6/14 at 2:12amI want to watch Cinderella. Should watch it with Carly or not. And if not, who is the understudy?

Posted: 4/6/14 at 2:15amThe understudy, or Ella alternate really, is Jessica Hershberg and she is wonderful! I haven't heard anything from Carly besides her opening night, but judging by that, Jess is a bit better and has more of a Broadway sound. She's really awesome, and she goes on thursday and saturday nights! Though Carly I'm sure is great as well, so you can't go wrong with either Ella!

Carly's voice is VERY weak, it dose not fit the Broadway score. I have posted a few clips of her in the show on Youtube- they are pretty easy to find.
-I found her to be really boring on stage, she has a sweet personality and a nice voice, but she dose not belong on stage.

You can see various performances from Jessica Hershberg on YouTube. I've been "following" her since she was at University of Michigan and she's absolutely amazing.

Posted: 4/6/14 at 7:04pmGo see Jessica! Ssw her last week and she is truly lovely to watch as Ella. Very reminiscent of Laura. Carly Rae is a sweet person but just pails in comparison vocally to Jessica.

Posted: 4/6/14 at 8:17pmI haven't seen Carly Rae Jepsen so I can't comment on her abilities, but I thought Jessica Hershberg (the Ella alternate) was absolutely phenomenal! Her voice is strong and clear, her acting is spot-on and a little more realistic than was Laura Osnes's, and her dancing is wonderful too. You can tell from the way she holds herself that she's been trained in ballet. Jessica was a joy to watch and I'd recommend seeing her over Carly if you're looking for a more classically trained Ella!

Posted: 4/7/14 at 9:44amDoes anybody know if Kaitlyn Davidson ever does the understudy duties on certain days? i'm a big NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT fan and she was in the ensemble there. I saw Cinderella when Alyssa Neeck performed the Ella role between when Laura left and Carly came on board - she was excellent, though Alyssa's contract must've ended because she's no longer in the cast. What a great show, V. Clarke is amazing.

Posted: 4/7/14 at 10:16amWell, unfortunately, for me since I'm seeing ALADDIN on a Thursday evening, I'm stuck with Carly Rae for the Friday evening show :/ Didn't Cinderella used to have Friday matinees?

Posted: 4/7/14 at 10:37amCarly is getting a bit of a bad rap here. I absolutely LOVED Laura in this role, and thought her singing was sublime. It's true that Carly doesn't have Laura's Broadway voice, she is clearly not Laura vocally. But I was VERY surprised at how well she acted. She has a charm on stage that makes you root for her. And her dancing was, I thought, equal to Laura's. Don't go to the show with a negative attitude because you're seeing Carly, just enjoy the show, the wonderful music, the great orchestrations, and the magical staging.

Technically, Jessica Hershberg is the Ella alternate, with Kaitlyn Davidson as an understudy. I'm sure she'll go on eventually, but so far every performance that Carly has missed, Jessica Hershberg has done, (or Alessa Neeck before she left the cast).
And no, Cinderella's never had friday matinees, they had wednesday but just recently switched to thursdays.

Posted: 4/7/14 at 6:44pmNo, the did not "switch to Thursdays". They added a Thursday matinee and removed Wednedday evening performances.

Posted: 4/7/14 at 9:24pmI am certain you will have a great time even if you are stuck with Carly, she's not horrible, she just whispers the score and has no belt. She's was a sweet personality, but that's all she's got going for her. Victoria Clarke is the true star of this show.
