Profile: I have been going to Broadway shows since I was four years old. Two of my most memorable moments was meeting and speaking with President Clinton (while he was still POTUS) at "Chicago" during the summer of 1999, and seeing the final performance that Yul Brynner ever gave as the King (it was a Sunday night benefit performance the night that revival closed.) The cast gathered and sang Auld Lang Sygne, and there was not a dry eye in the house.
Favorite musicals: Les Mis, A Little Night Music, Gypsy, Fiorello, Sunset Blvd., South Pacific, Carousel, The King and I, A Chorus Line, 1776, Miss Saigon, and others I can't even think of this minute.
Favorite plays: August:Osage County, Night Mother, Amadeus, Equs, and many more.
Favorite performers: Bernadette, Nathan, Betty B., Kellie O'Hara, Kristin, Jerry Orbach (RIP), Audra.

Completely disagree after seeing it last night (along with Bernadette Peters who was in the audience). My wife and I loved it and I think it'll win multiple Tonys Sunday.

Hamilton 10th Anniversary Playbill cover contest

Why can I see the picture I posted above on my iPad but not on a desktop or iPhone. Is it visable?

Hamilton 10th Anniversary Playbill cover contest--NOW IT WORKS!

So Playbill and Hamilton sponsored a contest, open to anyone, to design a special 10th Anniversary Playbill cover. I have a 12 year old grandson who designed this one.  He’s competing against pros, from what I understand. I’m so proud of him I just had to let y’all see it.

Ideal Revivals

I know that very few of you on this board are old enough to have seen Fiorello (which has never been revived) but I think it's make an absolutely GREAT revival given today's political climate. It's one of the only musicals to have won both the Best Musical Tony and  Pulitzer Prize. It has a sensational score that ranges from the funny (see "Politics and Poker" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APsYihdXPRE) to wonderful ballads like "When Did I fall in Love?" (Here's Audra's version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfbeV6ToyCw

Lemme know what you think.

Smash changed ending SINCE OPENING-SPOILER

Direct quote from material on the internet:

The Broadway adaptation of Smash underwent a significant transformation in its ending between its opening night on April 10, 2025, and the present. Initially, the musical concluded with a dark and dramatic twist: Ivy Lynn, the central character, dies onstage during a high-energy number, symbolically mirroring Marilyn Monroe’s tragic fate. This ending was supported by producer Steven Spielberg and embraced during the first

What changed?

I’d rather not spoil it for others but will gl

I thought you love theatre trash.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/13/25

The grosses for Smash were very good given that one of the eight performances was  opening night where a large percentage of tickets are comped.

Do you realize how much money Gypsy is likely to make during the holiday season? It will not be a Labor Day closing.

What’s the factual basis for asserting that the word of mouth for Smash is generally negative? What you read here?

Tony Awards Race

Audra will win because she's Audra, who I adore. But it's no longer a two person race, it's a three person race between those two and Robyn Hurder, who is spectacular in Smash. If it was a two person race it'd be between Audra and Robyn. Go ahead, Smash haters, take your shots but Robyn's singing, acting AND dancing was absolutely incredible.

Absolutely not!

I mean Swept Away, Redwood, and Smash are almost universally considered three of the worst shows of the season

Well, with respect, you might want to check the definition of 'universally". Even the reviews for Smash are a bit more positive than negative, and audiences seem to be loving it for the most part (though not "universally"). Do people seeing the show count as part of the universe?

SMASH Reviews

Critics write reviews based on what they see, hear and feel.

For everyone here who seem to be getting their rocks off by trashing Jesse Green, let me suggest the following. Clear your minds and go back and read his review again, as objectively as possible whether a good theatre critic could have written that review based on what they saw, heard and felt? I’m not asking anyone to change their minds about the show, assuming they actually saw it. But to suggest such things  as

I guess it’s possible that some critics disagreed with you. How could that be possible?

Mistake in today's Word Game

I'm sure that no one cares all that much but there's an error in today's word game. A letter in the answer is marked as an incorrect guess.

Or maybe you don't have much if a sense of humor. There's always that possibility.

My wife and I saw it too and we actually liked the ending a lot (as we did the entire show). Aside from the great music and the plot point that concerned the EVOLUTION
