I saw this show tonight (Thanks TDF!), and it's absolutely lives up to the hype. It's such a great play - especially for actors because you're bound to recognize some of the exercises they do. It's a brilliantly constructed play. I love all the subtleties throughout. It's just an excellent production. So well designed. The set is so simple, but so detailed - the fact that they took time to put mirror behind the curtain (which never moves) was such a nice realistic touch. And I loved the costumes and they how they so perfectly suited each character. Ugh, it's just so good. Please go see this. I would say "OMG, I WISH THIS WOULD GO TO BROADWAY" but I just don't see it surviving. It's far too small and unobtrusive to survive. I do think it's the best play I've seen this year, and I would throw it into the Pulitzer ring, but of course, like I said, I think it's just too small and forgetful to win, but it's got so many layers and so much to it. I loved it. Go see it. Now.
Totally agree. Absolutely fantastic show.
I've heard many good things about this...I'm hoping to get to see it in January.
Thanks for the reminder and putting it BACK on my radar.

"but it's got so many layers and so much to it."
Yes, many layers of boredom, laid on thick.
I thought it was absolutely dreadful. Self-consciously "smart," tedious, and exasperating. Imagine an author forcing an audience to watch characters lie on a floor and count numbers. And this is what passes for drama? For heaven's sake!
You seem to be in the minority....but to each his own. Looking forward to checking it out myself.

After Eight, I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't get the hype. I know we're in the minority - at least on the boards - so it helps to know someone else is out there who didn't get it. :)
And dramamama611, definitely. I'd never try and DIScourage someone from seeing something. I just like it when opposing views have a chance to be presented as well. :)

Add me to the column of those who loved it! What a gem...for me, one of the best shows of the season as well.
I also thought it was a total blast. It was wonderfully funny; the characters were lovingly portrayed; and a load of drama was portrayed in quiet moments with subtlety, charm, and good will.
One of the best things I saw this year.

"What a gem."
Yes, a real gem. That and "The Starry Messenger." And don't forget "This." Rare gems, all. They rival the showcases at Cartier's.

After Eight, I don't get it. I don't care that you didn't like the show - that's fine, whatever. You paid money for it, you can share your opinion, but to continually make fun of it and other people for seeing it is just stupid.
There was plenty of drama going on. I'm sorry it wasn't spelled out for you and handed to you in a nice pretty bow, but there was so much brewing and going on even when they were just lying on the floor. The way certain characters said the same numbers together speaks volumes about their relationship.

"I'm sorry it wasn't spelled out for you and handed to you in a nice pretty bow"
Listen, I don't need you or anyone else to "spell out" the meaning of this profound work of art--- as if there were actually something deep here that required "spelling out." So yes, I got it. But there was another thing I understood only too well-- that it was a tedious, exasperating bore.
Nor am I making fun of anyone who goes to see it. People can spend their money and time as they see fit.

So then why come onto this thread twice to bash it? Did you not get past the initial audition? Did you get typed out? I mean, what?

I didn't realize that this was the "Circle Mirror Transformation Love Thread." If that's what you intended it to be, you should have named it as such.
And no, I was not cut out or typed out. I simply didn't like it. A lot. Why is that so difficult for you to understand, or more importantly, to accept?
I would say you should be less defensive about opinions that don't jibe with yours. And be less cavalier in calling people "stupid."
I'm seeing this tonight, very intrigued after reading both ends of reactions.

Didn't call you stupid, just your actions.
It's not a love thread, but still, the fact that you decided to mention it TWICE on this one thread that you hated it just irked me a little and seemed a little uncalled for.
I don't care if you liked it or not. I loved it. I'd give it the Pulitzer in a second for drama. I thought it was brilliantly constructed and thought-out, but to each their own.
Saw it tonight. Mark me in the column for 'brilliant'.
I was there tonight and was enthralled by it. Absolutely loved it.

"Didn't call you stupid, just your actions."
There was nothing "stupid" about my actions. Let's face it. You just didn't like the fact that someone didn't bow and scrape like you before your precious work of art.
And again, I would suggest you avoid throwing around the term "stupid" as carelessly as you do.
"It's not a love thread, but still, the fact that you decided to mention it TWICE on this one thread that you hated it just irked me a little and seemed a little uncalled for."
Oh, it "irked" you, did it? It was a little "uncalled for," was it? Strange, but somehow I feel that if someone came on this thread to praise this opus twice, thrice or five hundred and thrty eight times you wouldn't be "irked," or find it "uncalled for." Do correct me if I'm wrong here. Funny, you've now yourself posted THREE times on how much you loved it. Are you "irked" at yourself as well?
"I don't care if you liked it or not. I loved it. I'd give it the Pulitzer in a second for drama. I thought it was brilliantly constructed and thought-out, but to each their own."
I've got news for you. I couldn't care less if you think it deserves the Pulitzer Prize. And if it does win the Pulitzer Prize, the Obie, and even the Nobel Peace Prize, that won't change my opinion one iota that this play is worthless drivel.
Now you can back to wailing like a child whose rattle has been snatched from his hands.

Ha, what an asshole.
Whatever man. It's fine. If you want to be a Debbie Downer, by all means, go for it.

(Oh, and my problem wasn't that you didn't like it, but how you said it. You didn't say it smartly or given any examples, but merely made fun of it for having pretentious pauses. What?!)

Loved it.
Could see it surviving on the B'way in a subscription house, like LCT did with Dividing the Estate.
Could also see it being a Pulitzer contender.

Nice! I thought my Pulitzer remark was a little far fetched, but I really thought it was brilliant. I wish I had snagged another TDF ticket while it was still up there.
I hope it finds a home after its extended run. Anyone heard anything yet?
