I know it was widely assumed that this would not be making the jump to the Great White Way, but with the recent praise/ extensions/ cast recording, a transfer certainly isn't too far off the tracks, no?
anyway, fter seeing the show, I think the Circle in the Square would be a perfect location for this musical, especially with the audience being so close to the actors in this theatre, and thus not allowing the actors to be swallowed by the space. Any other thoughts?

Posted: 5/12/10 at 12:35amI really like what they did with it at the Public. The idea of transforming the theater and making you feel very much a part of it. It would need a tiny house, and I think they need to expand the show a little. I think there is a perfect intermission break after he becomes president with that big song, and they can totally expand the show by 15mins or so. It just doesn't seem substantial enough for a Broadway house yet. It's a great show, but it could def get a little better. The songs are great but a little repetitive.

Does not belong on Broadway.
15 minutes too long at the Public.
Best musical of the season.

Posted: 5/12/10 at 11:01amCircle in the Square would be the only Broadway house I can see it possibly working in. But I just don't think a transfer is in the cards. Why does every successful Off-Broadway show have to transfer? That's why we have Off-Broadway: to present more off-beat and daring works of theatre. Not to be a stepping stone to Broadway.

a transfer is very possible and people are circling around it.
But Off Broadway makes no $ sense since the show is too expensive. It is basically Broadway or nothing.

Posted: 5/12/10 at 12:02pmHow is the show expensive? Unit set, small band, no stars, no crazy tech. Is it just because it has more than 5 people in the cast?

Unfortunately, Kad, the concept of the long-running off-broadway musical is very much among the dearly departed.
Unless it's at, say, New World Stages and has a VERY mainstream appeal--and willing to run for weeks at a loss in slow times--we aren't going to be seeing anything as challenging as BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON have an OB long run.

Posted: 5/12/10 at 4:11pmThe constant extensions of the show seem to lead me to believe the show can be successful in a small (key word: small) Broadway house. If they market it correctly, it could very well be the next Urinetown... perhaps even more successful...

And they just extended AGAIN through the end of June(ish). I've been thinking a long term run at New World would work...Altar Boys was successful there for what-- 5 Years?
I'm on the fence whether this one has the chops for a B'way run or not. I DO want to see the chance for more folks to get to see it, and now I'LL get to see it again. I agree: best NEW musical of the year!

Posted: 5/12/10 at 4:33pmEverytime I see it, it reminds me more and more of Urinetown. If they lengthen the show a little (I almost can't believe I'm saying this, but it could be a great 2 hour show), it could have a very successful run. Clearly the Off-Broadway awards will determine much in the coming weeks...

Posted: 5/12/10 at 4:41pmYou can't lengthen the show, it was really at least 15 minutes too long as it was and that's from someone who liked it! I could see it at New World Stages, or some other small-ish venue...maybe it could have a Rocky Horror kind of appeal?

Posted: 5/12/10 at 5:03pmYou could lengthen it if you were to also put in an intermission: but it's so good I wouldn't mind it staying intermissionless.
