I'm seeing Matt Morrison and Neil Patrick Harris as Stine and Stone.
Write you Congressperson today and make it happen.
Of those two, Morrison would probably be the more likely Stone, but both seem pretty Stine-y to me.

I think Neil Patrick Harris could pull off Stone. From the stage, he still has that movie idol look. Morrison would have to be Stine, he doesn't have that 40's black and white movie look.

When has he ever had a movie idol look?

Neil as movie idol is not that much of a stretch of the imagination.
Isn't Stine supposed to be Jewish? Morrison and Doogie are both very goyisch...
Stine calls for a baritone with great top notes. Is that Neil Patrick Harris? And to me Morrison is all wrong for Stone. I could see Norbert as Stine and Brian D'Arcy James as Stone.

Norbert is too sweaty, working class to play a writer. Brian's face is too scalely to play a 1940s movie private detective.
Chris Sieber as Stine and Cheyenne Jackson as Stone
So...Greg Edelmann is Jewish?
I could get behind Cheyenne Jackson. Wait ... what were we talking about?
To claim there's only one look to a Jew is racist. Belongs in that other thread. Wait, all threads on BWW are racist. So you tell me.
Since we're casting Jews, I'd go with Andy Samberg as Stine and Chris Klien as Stone. Because he can SING SO WELL.
Norbert is too sweaty and working class for a writer? Huh? How many writers have you met? He's perfect.
Nobody mentioned so far is right for Stone... Can we just get James Naughton in a time machine?

How about Leslie Kritzer as Oolie/Donna?

For some reason, I never got around to seeing CITY OF ANGELS. Now that I have read about it in detail in Ethan Mordden's book "The Happiest Corpse I've Ever Seen"(an excellent book mostly about the last 25 years of NYC theatre) I would love to see it. Mordden praises it profusely. As usual, I prefer revivals, although I recently enjoyed IN THE HEIGHTS. The current spate of rock musicals leaves me cold.
There's a great production of CITY OF ANGELS happening at the Gallery Players in Brooklyn right now. It closes this Sunday. If you want to see the musical performed live, now's your chance!

It was a great show and came along at the most perfect time. The music was great, the idea was incredible and it was excellently staged.

This is a musical not an O'Neill play. In musicals, we expect escapism not reality. Norbert reads as Boston working class, not Hollywood fantasy.
One of the best scores of the last 25 years, possibly THE best. And the original production was just glorious.

Agreed. It was sexy, it was funny, it was glorious.
Ya Gotta Look Out For Yourself
With Every Breath I Take
Nothing Without Me
You Can Always Count on Me
Funny
All wonderful songs
I would love a revival of this fantastic show, but I can't imagine it without the original staging. I would hate to see it fall victim to the use of video screen backgrounds for the entire show instead of those wonderful framing effects of the original production.
I could definitely see David Hyde Pierce as Stine and Hugh Jackman as Stone with Stephanie J. Block as Bobbi, Emily Skinner as Oolie and Rachel York as Alaura (it would be fun to bring her back as a different character).
Goth, you forgot the sexiest song from the show: Lost and Found. Aw hell, I can't think of a weak number in the entire show. Even the underscoring was perfect. I love Alaura's Theme and the Prologue.
It really is a terrific show; I saw the production at the Virginia several times, and also can't imagine it working as well scaled down.
I don't know about Emily Skinner as Oolie, unless she's lost a great deal of weight - Oolie should be more of a sexpot, I believe.

I didn't forget it. I just didn't want to appear overly boastful.
IMO, With Every Breath I Take is sexier than Lost and Found. Although both songs are great. I could imagine Billie Holiday in a nightclub singing WEBIT.

I just saw Skinner in Billy Elliot in Chicago. She has lost a lot of weight and looks AMAZING. It's why I immediately thought of her. She has the comedic chops, the voice AND the look. This photo doesn't really do her justice, but she looks wonderful in Billy Elliot. I almost didn't recognize her from the last time I saw her, which was The Full Monty.
