"Clay Aiken to RETURN to broadway"
Who cares? He's doing a role that other actors are just as good if not better.
Now if David Hyde Pierce were returning to the role, you know, an amazing actor, that would be a big deal.
David Hyde Pierce is a supremely good actor but he is too old for the role.
I would never expect him to return to the role , I just said that it would be news if he did. Clay returning is a big yawn.
Jaystarr, Sir Robin is the perfect role for Clay. He couldn't do Lancelot because he can't dance that well, and who would mistake him for a swordsman that kills people?
Have you seen him in the role? If not, you might give him a chance.

SPAMALOT is many things, but it sure as hell isn't A CHORUS LINE. The dancing for these roles (at least, these leads) is far from hindering when it comes to taking a role, nor is Hank Azaria, who originated the role, a naturally gifted dancer.
Also, why does it matter if people would or would not "mistake him for a swordsman that kills people"? It's called acting. I doubt most people would mistake him for a guy who soils himself and plays the piano while singing about the necessity of Jewish people in musical theatre, but that doesn't seem to be stopping him.

No. I just saw SPAMALOT last Saturday! My second time.. I saw the original cast w/o
Tim Curry (he was out) I did not like Drew Lachey & Stephen Collins. I heard good things about Clay Aiken! Yeah! I wish I saw it with Clay Aiken. Unfortunately I wont be revisting anymore long running shows..after last week's SPAMALOT and last June's ReNT! It was a disaster to see a 5th generation to later cast!
Also Clay might be good, but SPAMALOT is an ensemble show! I also did not like the actors that played Sirs Lancelot & Galahad too, so with Marin Mazzie (considering I love her at RAGTIME & KISS ME KATE) - her Lady of the Lake was just awful and not funny at all! (unlike Sara Ramirez)

I can't tell whether he genuinely enjoys the gig, or whether he just really needs some money right now....

I hope you are not talking about Rick Holmes who plays Lancelot. Most people, including me, think he is amazing. As is Tom Deckman who plays Herbert. They did lose something when Christopher Sieber left.
Sorry you didn't get to see Hannah. She was a hoot!
Yeah- Its was Rick Holmes that I saw! (see playbill above) Unfortunately I did not like him neither. Dont know why?
I saw Hank Azaria as Lancelot and ??? Forgot the guy's name in Legally Blonde as Herbert-three years ago...and I thought they were a RIOT!

Agreed that he was very good when I saw it, but I cannot stand people just going to see the show just for him. Some of us actually like the show based on other cast members too when we saw it, and the original cast for putting out an amazing cast recording. Yes, I am still in awe of Hannah Waddingham, Tom Deckman, Christopher Sieber, and Rick Holmes. They were awesome.
The only thing that's keeping me going at this moment is the fact that, hopefully, he'll be helping to raise a ton of money for Broadway Cares, like he did during his last stint.

Yes, they were. And just about every recap I read on Clay's boards attested to the fact. So, while most of the Clay fans probably wouldn't have gone if he weren't there, the whole experience drew lots of them back for many shows. I can't imagine anyone topping those three men, and Tom Deckman is in a league of his own. Those guys gained a ton of new fans among Clay's groupies.
That actually surprises me because the night I went and stage doored, Clay didn't come out, so everyone who only cared about him left. And of course, I got autographs from Hannah Waddingham, Rick Holmes, and Tom Deckman. All three could not have been nicer.

Just in time for the Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS Annual Flea Market. Wonder if he'll do the celebrity table. That line will be insane.

Am I the only one a little saddened that the wonderful and talented Marin Mazzie is now replacing and not originating?
Fair enough it is a pay check and all (something I know all too well), but producers, give her something great! She is totally worth it!
Dude, just close this thing already.
I'm just excited to see more ridiculous stage door videos! That was probably the only entertaining aspect of Clay in Spamalot!

Congrats to Clay on the new baby.
Remember when you all were posting on here last year (about nine months ago) that Fantasia was pregnant? People were even starting new accounts on here just to post that false news. Well we see now that she wasn't. I'm thinking that it was Clay who was the one who was expecting but people probably just heard "American Idol" and assumed it was Fantasia simply because she had a child 7 years ago.
It had to be Clay since he's the one with the new baby. I'm happy that's all settled now of who was and wasn't pregnant.
He must really like Spamalot to go back to it but he did take a nice little break to refresh.

I'm sure you're right that he enjoyed his time at Spamalot and they must be thrilled to have him back. It wasn't exactly a holiday though, in the past 3 months he released his 4th album, appeared on a lot of TV shows, spent 2 weeks in Somalia and Kenya for UNICEF and is now preparing for his Bubel/Aiken Foundation charity Gala and the second annual Golfing for Inclusion Tournament and Gala in Florida. I don't think he ever stops working and just sits around on the porch.
LOL.
Though I think that he would be MORE perfect for Prince Herbert role! -- then I MIGHT consider seeing SPAMALOT again!
He would be perfect for Prince Herbert, but he wouldn't do it. His fans would get hostile at the implication.
Man, you know the economy's getting tough when an international, best-selling, super star like Clay Aiken has to go back to Broadway to put his kid through grammar school. Wonder what he'll turn to for college tuition?
Gay porn.
